GoW: Ragnorok sells 11 million, with a big thanks to Bundles

God of War: Ragnarok sold an impressive amount today, reaching a total of 11 million copies sold. A big amount of these large numbers come from Sony forcing gamers to buy bundles at an increased price and making the non-bundle not available across the world. But even so, these numbers are very nice for the series. We can expect another GoW game very soon, Sony is quick to release these bad boys and they dont take long to make.

I expected the Ragnarok event to be bigger. Like multiple missions.

Where's the source saying this is from bundles? Also this is why Sony doesn't put games on Plus day one. MS games don't sell this well and they're forced to put them on Gamepass as incentive.

@Zero_epyon: Since this would be about 3 months. We just guess how many PS5 were sold in 3 months around the world. Also it’s holiday season so bundle numbers are high. My guess would be 7 million Ragnarok Bundles were forced on games in that time period.

Not just bigger, but more impressive, a spectacle. I never understood how the original trilogy, and especially GoW3, a game made for a ps3, has way more spectacle on screen when compared to both reboots. Like what's going on here? They don't want to spend money on memorable set pieces or what's up? Hyping Ragnarok for two games straight, and all what it is, is a giant creature on a 7sec animation loop fighting Thor in the backgroud. Imagine if this was the actual last boss. Now that would be impressive on a scale of the OG GoW games.

@hardwenzen: The Ragnarok part is crap. All that hype and build up for some of the most underwhelming payoff I’ve ever experienced.

I got that bundle, but I have yet to play Ragnarok as I still need to finish the last God of War game. Right now I'm to invested in TLOU to finish that so gonna be a while.

Well I’ve never seen a base PS5 system for sale at my local stores, they’ve all been bundles with Horizon Forbidden West and now God of War: Ragnarok so I’m not too surprised.

@Archangel3371: I'm one of those who went out and try to find base PS5 mainly just the digital console but since neither had any at my local Target store, so I settle for the God of War Ragnarok + PS5 disc drive bundle. Finding any base PS5 is rare from where I live.

There was also the COD bundle being sold. That's the one I bought. So I wouldn't assume every PS5 sold included GOW.

@davillain: I would have just gotten the disc based PS5 system myself but all they had was the ones with Horizon Forbidden West bundled in so just got what I could get. Thankfully it was before they increased the prices over here.

It sold 11 million in 3 month that is incredible. Sony and Nintendo AAA exclusives nowadays tends to move pretty huge numbers. Spidey PS4 series announced sold 33 million back in May last year and probably already moved to 40m with holiday discounts.

11m isn’t good enough for Sony. The biggest cross play title they launched, covered in accolades has sold less 20m than Spider-Man.

Sony are relying on their exclusives - it’s all they have. What will the figures be on the ps5 only Spidey 2?

@mesome713: Benji-Sales on Twitter is saying bundles didn't hurt but it is not the reason it sold 11 million in 3months. The majority of sales have been stand alone. People need to stop forcing their own narrative to make an achievement look bad.

Good on Sony for this.. I wonder if Spider-Man 2 will beat this 3 month number if it releases this year (I would expect it to, as more people know Spider-Man than they do God of War)

It might be tough for Spiderman since it'll be PS5 only. GoW had the advantage of releasing on the PS4 as well.

Personally I am not really into movie games for non gamers. I got through 1 hour of first one on PC (which is substantially superior to the PS5 version) before I uninstalled and got omega bored.

Maybe I'll try Ragnarök once the good version (the one that runs over 30/40 fps on high 😂) is on PC. But I doubt I'll enjoy it, just like the first one.

Makes sense to bundle a console with one of the most marketable games on the system. I just don't see this game having the legs of the 2018 game. The reception for this hasn't exactly been... stellar.

You shouldn't support bad habits in the gaming industry by supporting trash like this. Especially when the PC gets a good game every 4 days or so. Usually sold for a fraction of the price while actually being entertaining.

just curious since user base seems an odd metric for a xbox fan to use considering they have the largest user base between Sony and Nintendo but has worse revenue than both of them from game sales according to latest reports.
