Not a reason to buy a PS3 but a great addition for the PS3 owners so they can enjoy GOW 2 and have something to tide them over until late april and may when more great games come out.

Like I said in another thread, GoW2 is a PS2 game, thus it plays on a $130 dollar system just fine. Meaning, most PS2 owners will see no reason to buy a $600 system to play a game they can play on a system they already own, HD or not.
Seriously, Halo 2 is upconverted to 720p on 360. How many Halo 2 fans bought a 360 to play Halo 2 on it?

They bought it for other reasons too and the fact the game plays in 720p is an nice bonus...

Same with GoW2.
