https://www.pcgamer.com/the-lord-of-the-rings-gollum-dev-pulling-out-of-making-new-games-after-the-lord-of-the-rings-gollum/

Gollum was an EPIC FAIL that destroyed the development side of the business. Sucks about the layoffs, but it doesn't seem like there was much talent there (at least not for 3D games) and the development leads were clueless. So, the news is not surprising.

Good. The fact that they charged full price for something that looks like a straight-to-steam $9.99 POS is insulting.

Sure, Gollum was shit, but the gaming community was very toxic towards them as well. Sad to see unfortunately.

However, nobody ask for a Gollum standalone game (despite he has few fans) and if you want a good Lords of the Rings game, go play The Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor/War games.

Well I heard it was bad, but Deadelic had some decent titles under their belt before this. Shame they're going totally out of business.

Come for the mashup of Assassin's Creed and Batman: Arkham gameplay set in Tolkien's world, stay for the orc bards

You have to give it to them. They were able to get a great license despite being a small developer.

Too bad about the quality of the game though.

Really unfortunate, I thoroughly enjoyed some of their The Dark Eye games. I hope the people who worked there can find new jobs in the gaming industry. And utilize their talent for making RPGs and point and click adventures.

@mrbojangles25: For sure, they did make some good RPGs and Adventure games. Shame this one mistake sunk their company.

For those that did not read the article.... They are shutting down internal development, but are still in business as a publisher. They had only developed a few games internally prior to Gollum, but had published many. They can still fund other studios or hire other studios to work on their IPs in addition to publishing partnerships with developers. I think they realized that they kind of suck at making games themselves, and figured they better stick to publishing and the business side of things.

Yes they do publish, but some of the adventure games and RPGs utilizing the Dark Eye ruleset. Were developed by them as well.

The industry is so competitive these days with so many good games that bad games and bad devs have no chance to survive. These aren't the days where we get our gaming information from GamePro magazine. Anything bad about a game will be magnified due to Internet and social media. This is an era of gaming where you need to deliver or be gone.
