Never played Goldeneye007 , but i was reading it was very popular console FPS during its time.By default i'm choosing Half Life.
GoldenEye007 (N64) VS Half Life (PC), which was better FPS game?
Obviously Half life. it change the landscape for FPS genre. it was perfect game tell story without having a single cutscene. it was the game that perfected the idea of story driven FPS and how FPS games tell a story. both Half life are 2 of greatest shooters of all time
Goldeneye was not even a good game when it was released. only praised because it was first ever console shooter but compare to PC shooter for that time. it pale in comparision.
Half Life, easily. I loved Goldeneye both when they were new, but Goldeneye is impossible to play today and Half Life is still great.

Console shooters existed before Goldeneye

This honestly. Half life was one of the best games ever made. Goldeneye wouldn't crack the top 10, even though I love the game. So many good memories of the multiplayer.
Half-Life - still an amazing, very playable game. Aged wonderfully. Great online MP.
Goldeneye 007 - Was a fun game with cool levels. The mission structure made it fun to replay each one and try to find all the secrets or see how fast you could beat them. Aged horrifically and is basically unplayable these days. Good couch MP back then.
Then: HL
Now: HL
@R4gn4r0k: I thought about that but those are considered separate games built on the same engine.
But if you had half life you could play those games for free, so in that sense I do not consider them seperate :P
Half Life didn't come with a MP mode, right ?
Half Life was and still is a great shooter. Apart from excellent gunplay, it also popularized and improved what games like System Shock introduced back then; Real Time storytelling.
GoldenEye was fun FPS for Consoles but compared to PC shooters of the time, it wasn't anything special. It hasn't aged that well either. Half Life on other hand still plays like a dream, apart from some awkward sliding problems during platforming sections.
Well Goldeneye had a more fun multiplayer.
But Half Life had Counterstrike, Day of Defeat and many more multiplayer mods.
Of course, there's really no comparison between the two. One is, some, stupid console game and the other's, arguably, the best computer game ever created..;) :)

Well there is one comparison I'd like to make: Rare and Valve are not the same as they used to be.
They used to be my two favourite gaming companies at one point. Producing hit after hit after hit. Now Rare is back to making games, moving on from all that Kinect Crap, but we still have no idea if there'll ever be a new Half Life or Left 4 Dead.
I skipped GoldenEye and went directly to Perfect Dark. After playing PD, GoldenEye seemed like a pleb title. PD>HL>GoldenEye
I grew up with golden eye but the game really doesn't hold up at all for me.
It had great multiplayer memories but it runs like complete crap and is very slow and choppy.
I played half-life without any nostalgia and right off the bat I could tell the game was phenomenal and punched myself for not playing it when it had came out.
Game was just like a fine wine it aged really well, the setting the way how its a 3 way battle you had marines coming after you and a big slug like boss that you couldn't kill you had to just go around it.
That game musta been so deep for its time wow just wow.
Half-Life Wins.
Personally i consider HL one of the best fps of all time , even for today standards. And if you ask me , it aged pretty well as well because it was THAT good.
Goldeneye was a fantastic experience as an FPS for its time and one of the best , if not the best fps on any console at the time but i dont think in the end of the day was on par with Half Life .. in any aspect. From graphics to fluidity of gameplay to level design to story to length to you name it.
Thats my opinion but i have to say im huge fan of HL series so i might not be very fair to Goldeneye here.

You remind me of my little brothers brat friends who kept killing me in perfect dark.
Screw that game that was for younger brats.

lol
At the time I'd have said Goldeneye easily, I had years upon years of fun playing nothing but that game, single player and multiplayer was amazing, coming up with new game modes with our imagination and keeping to our own set of rules in multiplayer was so fun.
Now though, and since about 2003 I'd say Half life every single time. I'm not a competitive fps player now as I suck, plus Counterstrike is amazing and cant be beat. HL is still magical to this day and if I had todys mentality back then I'd had played the hell out of HL instead of Goldeneye. I still played it but never really gave it much thought. (console peasant back then)

When GoldenEye released in 1997, its only real competition from PC shooters were Quake I & II, which GoldenEye surpassed. But then Half-Life came along in 1998, surpassing GoldenEye in single-player, while GoldenEye was still better in multi-player.

team fortress > goldeneye any day
Half Life is better in most every aspect outside of multiplayer (though arguably Team Fortress was Half Life's multiplayer). I honestly feel like Half Life 1 surpasses a good 99% of FPS games that release even to this day.
However, I do wish that someone would make a good spy game again. Goldeneye was awesome, and so was Nightfire.
I remember Goldeneye having some pretty cool features like enemies reacting to where you shot them (which was fun for shooting people in the balls). Also, shooting at scientists would make them turn on you. I liked seeing things like that in games.
Both were great. shit we had golden eye, half life, halo, and metroid prime all within a few years of each other.
