This is going to be a game you play and realize it’s all nostalgia goggles. I wish this were part of Rare Replay as it should have always been part of.

Love Goldeneye. Stayed up late nights with its multi player as well with friends and family. Will definitely check it out. Being a console game, a lot of PC players won't give it the credit it deserves on how it influenced a lot of games but that's ok.

It’s finally happening. Rumors have been this game has been done and ready for a while. Supposedly the war has held back the release date too. I wonder where they’re planning to go with this. What if it’s good? What if we want more? Do they plan on DLC? Map packs? Skins? Will be interesting to see if this is a one and done or what updates will occur.

Exactly, be careful with what you wish, because this was amazing and fun 25 years ago ... but now ? Don't think is going to be anything more than a 10 min play.

Hope the controls are modern like Perfect Dark HD.

They are modernizing the controls, which I'm split on.

In one hand, it's going to feel really good and intuitive to play it like a traditional shooter

On the other, if the AI is the same the game will be a breeze with the updated controls even on hard lol

Switch having the definitive version is pretty odd. Imagine a scenario where Nintendo has online play while Xbox doesn’t… Like wut?!??

Somehow Nintendo is doing online play better than Microsoft by simply having it.

because emulating FPS games on PC is painful. cant set traditional KB/M controls.

I would argue if it runs as poorly online as some of their other games it's probably better to not have it at all ;)

Considering it was mentioned in Nintendo's list of upcoming N64 Switch Online games, I'm assuming Switch is getting the og N64 rom with online play. Xbox is getting the 60fps Xbox Arcade version with no online play?

Wow I never thought that we would ever get a re-release of GoldenEye 007. And I'm actually surprised that the game is coming out on both the Nintendo Switch and the Xbox consoles.

It still has split-screen (and that's more important for any MP IMO) so I'm fine with this. I'd rather play this with my daughter and & nephews so this is a win on my part.

Seen from more than a few sites stating that if you own Rare Replay, it will be free as part of an update.

Making online exclusive to the system with the worst online is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. And I can't see this game aging that well either.

Misread this as "Golden Axe" and got excited for 1.5 seconds.

This is the kind of games that need a full remake, not an easy cash grab remaster.

@davillain: That definitely happens with some games, but I played 007 Goldeneye for the first time about six or seven years ago on the N64 because I missed out on it as a kid, and I had a great time with it.

Microsoft confirmed the lack of online multiplayer mode on Xbox in a statement to The Verge, and it appears to be because the Xbox and Nintendo Switch versions are actually different. Nintendo appears to be using the original game, whereas Microsoft says it has made a “faithful recreation” of GoldenEye 007. There is no announced date for the GoldenEye 007 release just yet on either platforms.

I've got GamePass so I'm looking forward to playing this. I played it last year though on one of those very naughty emulator programs. 😏

It's not a remaster, it's a port. Nothing is being reworked. It's just the N64 game blown up to 4K and running at 60fps.

A remaster would touch up graphics or audio, which is not the case here.

Glad it's free for Rareware Replay owners.
