God of War unpatched on PS5

So this is something I didn't know about. Apparently, version 1.0 of GOW ran the 4K Checkerboard mode with an unlocked framerate. Seems the PS5 helps it hold 60fps with a few exceptions during cinematics.

Ragnarok is hopefully going to be something special when it releases.

They not going to proper patch this like how sucker punch did Ghost are they. Sony probably going to roll out the new GOW in similar fashion as Spiderman MM. Ultimate version that includes ragnarok and remester of this. Jim Ryan is out there dodging questions about next GOW left and right.

They should make the checkerboard mode with unlocked frame rate available in the patched version of the game. I got my PS5 coming next week. I want to play in the best quality possible. It would be nice to have some VRR for those frame rate dips as well. Why wasn't VRR included for the PS5 launch? Damn VRR noobs. Xbox was already doing VRR last-gen. Get on it Sony!

I'll definitely replay it when I finally get a Ps5, even after getting a platinum trophy and doing everything there is in the game I'm still ready for more!

Same thing with The Last Guardian really: you'll want to run it unpatched for checkerboard 4K with 60fps.

Awesome news. Here's a list of exclusive games that will run 60fps confirmed:

- Ghost of Tsushima

- Days Gone

- God of War (unpatched)

- The Last Guardian (unpatched)

- Killzone: Shadow Fall

And 2 PS5 games offer 60fps options:

- Spiderman

- Demon's Souls

@R4gn4r0k: how does one run these unpatched? Is there a way to turn off the auto-patching, or do you have to keep your ps5 offline? Also, presumably this means only disc owners can play these games properly on ps5

@xantufrog: You need the Physical copy and stop it from downloading what ever day1 patch, think you can go online but have to disable updates for that game specifically

Correct, so once you insert the disc the system will start downloading the patch automatically.

In the PS4 it was as easy as going into your download list and cancelling it.

I'm pretty sure it's very similar on PS5.

Playing God of War now on my launch ps4. .. Its really fantastic. Maybe the best action game of the generation. The gameplay is a blast.

I see no difference between the video in the op and my experience with the game so far...

Because it's not their game. From Software has to do the work and they've decided not to so far.

That's possible too but I'm sure Sony can't force From either way.

Motion Blur really helps mask 30fps on PS4 (none Pro) and I'm cool with Motion Blur on consoles to hide 30fps but I can tell you now, I see a huge difference between God of War 4 PS4/PS5 but I'm pro PC gamer, 60fps is a must without using motion blur.
