God of War and Death Stranding both getting the movie treatment!

A live-action adaptation of PlayStation’s hit video game franchise “God of War” has been ordered to series at Amazon’s Prime Video, with “Wheel of Time” boss Rafe Judkins set as showrunner.

Based on the massively popular 2018 video game, the show follows Kratos, the God of War, who, after exiling himself from his blood-soaked past in ancient Greece, hangs up his weapons forever in the Norse realm of Midgard, per Amazon’s description. When his beloved wife dies, Kratos sets off on a dangerous journey with his estranged son Atreus to spread her ashes from the highest peak — his wife’s final wish. Kratos soon realizes the journey is an epic quest in disguise, one which will test the bonds between father and son, and force Kratos to battle new gods and monsters for the fate of the world.

EXCLUSIVE: Hot on the heels of announcing Death Stranding 2 (w/t) at The Game Awards, gaming auteur Hideo Kojima’s Kojima Productions has partnered with Barbarian EP Alex Lebovici’s Hammerstone Studios to develop and produce a film adaptation of the former’s hit video game, Death Stranding.

The film being fully financed by Hammerstone will be produced by Kojima and Lebovici via their respective banners, with Kojima Productions US and Allan Ungar serving as exec producers.

Wowza, Sony games continue to excel with their writing and story that they become great material for movies and shows. Well done, PlayStation. Who else is excited to see GoW and DS on the big screen?

I mean, the Death Stranding one could be interesting, and better than the actual game. But i don't see how you'd do God of War.

Heck, I can. Now I believe that they should start with his Greek roots 1st instead of just jumping to his Norse adventures. There’s a lot of meat on that bone, and they can use Clash of the Titans series as a baseline, because in Wrath of the Titans Kronos looked just like Perses from GOW 3.

How? If they have the set pieces needed for the movie to be impressive like the games are, it will cost a shitload in cgi. And i can't think of a single actor that would fit Kratos physique, voice and be a good actor.

Seems Sony is more focused on TV TV TV instead of Games Games Games. Maybe if they would focus on games they would have more than one game in all of 2023 for our PS5.

Well anyway, for both Death Stranding & Warhammer 40K I can see Amazon doing justice but not God of War as they are straight going for Norse and not Greek which tells me Amazon will screw it up.

TV series = The Last of Us, Twisted Metal, God of War

Movies = Days Gone, Uncharted, Jak and Daxter, Death Stranding

Kojima must be so glad ... he was eager to leave the gaming industry and make films, i say good riddance.

Yeah, not interested. Think both would be better suited for animation, as with most adaptations of video games.

Can at least see Death Strandings broader strokes being filtered down to something interesting. Kojima tends to start with something cool before jumping 1000 sharks. If he's only on in a producer capacity, could work, but not expecting much here.

As for GoW, rip. Amazons recent track with adaptations, wack.
