I only want to get one game over the next few months, and I am trying to decide between Orange Box or Mass Effect. I have played the original Half-Life but never played Half-Life 2. So would I be better off getting Orange Box or waiting for Mass Effect?

OB is proven. ME could be overhyped. Wait.

If you have never even played Half-Life 2 then Orange Box is tons of value - if you like that type of games.

Heck; I had played HL2 before, but I'd gladly pay full price for the Orange Box if it only consisted of Episode 1 and 2 . Portal and TF2 on top of that is an amazing bonus.

Best. Game. Deal. Ever. IMO

Yeah, I agree. I often only decide between 2 games after they are released.

Be warned however, if you buy the Orange Box every other game you own will collect mountains of dust.

The best thing about it for me is Portal, I honestly haven't touched any other part of it yet.

MS looks to be a amazing game and scores are really good so far. So either one would be a great buy. Orange Box is great also. I have not even touched portal or Half-Life to much because i am addicted to TF2 on orange box. There is a huge variety in orange box to keep you busy for a long time but also with side quests in ME you can get 80+ hours gameplay from what I am reading. So both will be well worth $60. Pretty much just read about both games and see which you prefer. Either way you will make a great choice.

Get Orange Box now, and Mass Effect as soon as you can afford it.

If you want something to play right now, here is a VGA remake of Kings Quest. ;)

Probably the best (free) adventure game out there besides beneath a Steel Sky.

All signs point to Mass Effect being a 9.5 game, but orange box is the best value you can get. buy that.

The truth is Mass Effect will be a lot better. It will be longer, have better graphics, and probably have a better story. It will also probably have better gameplay. That said you should still get Orange Box anyway - it's good, but remember it' a collection of short and sometimes mediocre (TF2, Half Life 2, Episode 1) games.

the truth is that you (as we) don't know. What we do know is that the Orange Box is some of the best value you can get on one disc to this date. it's BRILLIANT imo.

Unless you want to be really bored come November 20, go with the Orange Box. Despite GameInformer's incredible review, Mass Effect is going to turn out to be a niche game and has great flop-potential. OB is proven and has something for everyone.

Orange Box is a good package.. For the Xbox360 the only gripe I have for it is TF2.. For two reasons, A) 16 player max cap, much lower then the PC's.. B) Unfortantly its a shooter I think is held back by the controler.. Its a very quick paced game.. My experience online with it at my friends house of the game was marred hugely by this.. On the PC the multiplayer is fantastic.. But on the Xbox360 just watching the playhers play seemed like they were fighting immensely with the controler.. I honeslty odn't see people will be able to play classes such as scout effectivley with it.
