Ironically, that this misuse is possible and that Steam has no interest in correcting this misuse makes me kind of happy about 2k’s decision and makes me want to reconsider Gearbox Publishing’s current posture on the platform.

Take it up the butt unquestioningly, or we will leave your house.
Fine, piss off. Take your USB stick with you.
Ive heard the argument that there's only review bombing because people can't specifically down rate the company and not the game. I however, don't know if a visible review system for specific game companies will have the desired consequences that people want.
I imagine if something like that were to be enacted then less desirable game companies would just get absolutely blasted, possibly ruining their business overnight. That's a rather negative take on gamers so I doubt the effect would be that dramatic.
The funny thing is that steam did do something about it. They implemented a new system that alleviates review bombing without silencing consumers. Really don't think they get the praise they deserve.
Basically a lot of these companies put their foot in it due to lack of customer service and diplomacy, and instead of sorting that out, they try to silence any backlash. We see it time and time again these days. Attack the fans of X. Fans of X initiate backlash to the attack. Complain, bitch, whine and moan, and write them off as trolls. Lose money because your bread and butter fans go elsewhere.
The way to combat this is not to piss off the fans in the first place. Simple. Service your fans, treat people with respect and dignity, and stop amplifying stupid people.

Maybe the most important post so far.
And I think most posts in this thread are correct. A developer trying to affect our freedom on Steam is pretty nasty. It will only garner more Steam support. Any vitriol thrown at the userbase by the media or anyone with reach is going to backfire and we have seen it so many times before.
I see Randy's doing all the mental gymnastics he can to justify removing user-feedback on business ethics, while strenuously having to deny being a pedophile as it's constantly brought up by user-feedback in regards to him having a shitty work-ethic, losing a company USB with important data (along with porn) - regardless of what kind was on it.
Now that's magic.
