https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2018-09-02-some-gamestop-employees-claim-new-red-dead-redemption-2-demo-put-them-to-sleep

"Beautiful game, but mostly just saw horse riding simulator. Very difficult to stay awake..." said one commenter on Reddit, while another said: "There was a shoot out after a bank heist but before the heist we saw 15 minutes of meandering through some woods and some plucky guitar playing."

"Don't get me wrong, I still think the game will be fantastic, just the demo was kinda boring to watch," added another.

Well, this is the ADHD generation. 90% of the times they say something is boring it means it's probably good.

I wasn't that crazy about the trailer. This is one of those games where everyone just expects it to be good, and if you say anything other than that, then something's wrong with you apparently lol.

Red Dead Redemption was a boring as shit game too, so that does not surprise me. In my opinion, most Rockstar games become repetitive chores after the first few hours roll by and gameplay mechanics and structure run thin.

Only question that enters my head is:

Why did they show that trailer to gamestop employees only ? And not to actual gamers ?

Agree, young people nowadays require a bombardment of information, otherwise they get bored. That's why they enjoy those mediocre Marvel movies for example, although with movies is quite more complex. Besides they are gamestop employees, you have to take into consideration a lot of factors as to why they may find the demo boring.

I'm not complaining, it's just the way young people are these days, you can realize that even by talking to them, everything is fast fast fast.

I am 28 years old, not that old, but i enjoy slow paced movies, and games.

Well from what I gather from posters in SW, other people's opinions is the way to live. My pre order is not only cancelled but I'm picketing the local midnight launch.

@mandzilla: yeah.

Customer: “hi, just need this game please.”

GS employee: “you want a warranty, subscription, a preorder, my pants, my girlfriend, my life?”

Customer: “Is it a bundle?”

GS employee: “yes”

Customer “no thanks, I don’t want your life. But can I trade in this autograph of the Beatles?”

GS employee: “sure...that’s $2 in credit - $1 in cash”

Well it's a demo. They could have gotten a really boring section of the game.

Personally I'm not really excited for RDR2, it's not really my kind of game. I prefer GTAV many times over.

LMAO right, they should forego the sales RDR2 will bring them and make games that you want.

RDR2 is still going to sell like water to rich men in a desert and be critically well received. RDR, like any game, has its detractors as well. Many of the young (16-20 year old) GTA fans I knew in 2010 hated RDR. They need modern day shit to like this type of game. Radios, cars, cell phones, modern slang and weapons.

But that didn't stop RDR from selling 10 million+ copies or winning these coveted GOTY awards.

Nah, modern games are now judged if it has a good story/characters regardless of how gameplay is viewed.

Good point but in some cases good gameplay is subjective as anything. Just look at how many games Ghost4ever doesn't like.

People will still buy their games in groves. Rockstar is better at building cultural phenomenons than they're good at building compelling games. They built their legacy on controversy. They're the "feel bad" games all the teenagers love to play, and with Red Dead Redemption being the lesser controversial of their powerhouse franchise, I see nothing but a hollow open world experience.

This gets me more hyped than their trailers so far. I like the idea that I can ride through the environment for 15 minutes without much action, besides there being the action. To take in the world and all that. But we still haven't heard about their MTX system.

If a Gamestop employee struggles to stay awake through a 20 minute demonstration, then I think that says more about Gamestop employees being overworked and in some dire need of some sleep rather than the game itself.

I would have it no other way. I play R*'s games to absorb the nuance and detail in their world building, seldom afforded by any other developer in the industry, and a slow methodological approach is one that enables that appreciation the best. If RDR were a game played in such haste it would largely diminish its appeal. Perhaps what was shown wasn't a proper balanced slice to show the various aspects of what the game offers and tended to focus on one more than the other, but if there's one thing I know it's that I'm not looking to rush through it, and any fan of R*'s works wouldn't be either.

There's a bit of a difference between accusing them of trying to get attention and calling them a low level sub species. I'm just saying, no one struggles to stay awake (unless they're overworked) over a 20 minute demonstration on one of the biggest games of the year.

Anyway. I did take a look at the reddit thread what eurogamer pulled their quotes from.

"To give a little context, everyone was exhausted from the week and it’s the last thing they showed us. I nodded for a minute but the game is beautiful. The world looks so meticulously constructed and the demo was a flawless example of the mechanics, world, and physics the game has to offer. I didn’t play the first one and had zero excitement for the game going into it but came out stoked on getting it."

I suppose everything is much more clear when given context.

oh no that settles it. A handful of millennials didnt like a small demo of it somewhere, its definitely dead on arrival.
