Great thread! Brings back a lot of memories reading through people's choices. Heck, makes want to go back and play some of them that I never really came around to finish.

2000 - No One Lives Forever (PC). The FPS genre was missing a female lead character set in the psychedelic 60's. Deus Ex should get honorable mention.

2001 - GTA III (PS2) (I played it on the PC and it didn't come out till 2002 on the PC but for the sake of consistency. And it was a revolutionary game). RTCW (PC) 2nd place, another great game that I loved.

2002 - No One Lives Forever 2 (PC). More psychedelic fun from the 60's. Oh, did mention I NOLF/NOLF 2 is my favorite FPS from the early 2000's? Why no sequal? :(

2003 - KOTOR (PC)

2004 - Half-Life 2 (PC) Easy choice without a doubt the BEST of 2004.

2005 - F.E.A.R. (PC) Although I would rate Need For Speed Most Wanted (PC) a close second as I think that was the last "great" Need For Speed game.

2006 - Gears of War (Xbox 360)

2007 - Crysis (PC) A game ahead of it's time, a visually stunning masterpiece. And one of the best open ended FPS ever made.

2008 - Metal Gear Solid (PS3)

2009 - Uncharted 2 (PS3). Quite possible the best exclusive game, visually and gameplay wise, for the entire PS3 generation.

2010 - Red Dead Redemption (PS3). Another classic from Rockstar, chose the PS3 version since I played it on my PS3.

2011 - Battlefield 3 (PC). Sequal to BF 2 returns after a 6 year hiatus. The best looking game in that year and the game to took back the graphics crown from Crytek. Although Skryim maybe better but haven't played enough of the game to comment.

2012 - Far Cry 3 (PC). Finally game that comes close to the epic that was the original.

2013 - GTA V (PS3) - Better than GTA IV (IMO). The amount of detail, time and work that went into putting the entire environment, gameplay, etc. is simply stunning.

2012 -Far Cry 3-caught me by surprise.

2013 -Right now, Last of Us. Mario 3D land and Zelda sound pretty good too. So does Fire Emblem and Gone Home...The year is too early. RIGHT NOW, though, Last of Us.

What can I say? Nintendo delivers very different experiences from everyone else, and that experience really affects me.

And there were so many other fantastic games through these years. Really hard to pick just one and some years I just couldn't narrow it down. I did stick to games that released and played that year. I loved the first Witcher, but didn't play it till 2012 right before the 2nd one, so I didn't include it.

I think that was probably the only game in the last decade to completely dominate GOTY season by a wide margin.
