Thoughts, SW? We all know Nintendo does this type of stuff all the time. It seems like people let it slide because it's just Nintendo. But what if this becomes a trend? Do you see it going that far? I guess it could happen if it becomes super successful. If that's the case, hopefully gamers will revolt!

If this becomes i trend, i will get the games and resell them for 4x the price on ebay. Nintendo scams their fans, so will i.

It's like that episode of south park where Eric Cartman has his own Theme Park.

When you tell people they can't have something, they want it even more.

Why would they not mass produce it like a normal game? This seems ridiculous.

Considering the release coincides with SMB's anniversary, there is nothing wrong with it being available for six months. If you can't purchase it from next week until March 2021, the issues might be on the end of those feeling bitter and slighted.

Don't you want the game to be available to anyone who wants to play it, at any time?

I was actually about to buy a Switch last night for normal price. But I looked at the cost of Nintendo exclusives. Games that have been out 3 years STILL being a full $60? I decided I won't be getting a Switch at all.

Yeah pretty scummy thing to do.

The reality is they're probably going to still have these ports after this limited run but all three games will become separate purchases and ultimately cost more if you decided to buy them all separate.

Who cares if the game is going away? I'm buying it day one digitally I never will delete it, I have a 512 gb sd card with tons of space on it this game is gonna be with me forever on that card.

If it goes away and you didn't buy it too bad you had months.

Yeah this is another dumb move by Nintendo in 2020. Make a digital download temporary? Can you make this any more consumer un-friendly.

I don't find any concern TBH because it is a timed anniversary celebration. With that said though, there will be MILLIONS produced from now until the day manufacturing is stopped. The game will not be scarce, contrary to the sky-is-falling mindset, for a good long while.

Like I said in another thread. There are ways of making each of these games look even better than what you're going to get in what is mostly a straight port with a higher internal resolution. And you can play them all on your PC, right now, assuming you have legal copies of the games to rip.

Every game is a timed release. There's thousands of games that are no longer being sold. They just get sold for a longer period than 6 months.

It's a limited edition to celebrate Mario's 35th Anniversary. They'll probably make the games available in a different package once the anniversary edition is off the shelves.

@eoten: Ripping your own copy is a breach of copyright (you are literally making a copy of the game), unless you're doing it for the specific reason of making a backup copy (which you aren't in this example).

While I don’t particularly like it myself I do understand the rationale behind it. First it’s a celebratory collection so on that note it kind of makes sense that it would be a limited time event. Secondly they’re games that Nintendo could sell again either on their own or in some other type of package deal at another point in time. This isn’t the first time that something was sold for a limited time and it won’t be the last. I doubt that this will become any more of a trend then it already is though. Most games will still be sold for as long as possible but there’s always going to be certain celebratory editions that will be limited in nature just to keep those things unique and hold more value.

Vaulting games is bullshit. It's a shady tactic to make people buy games using FOMO. Like Nintendo ever had problems selling software. But, when you reward companies with WAY too much success in one sitting, this is what they turn into.

I don't seet his becoming a trend. Nintendo won't make money off scalpers selling this thing for a higher price. If anything they are losing out on potential sales by limiting the release. The only way this makes sense is if they plan on putting these games up on NSO in the future, but thought they could make some quick cash off a collection right now. Otherwise, they could have kept selling this thing for years to come.

I just think Nintendo seen how fast scalpers bought up all the stock they had in stores, and thought "yeah, let's have that happen again." And sure, you can buy your own copy at a normal price, for now. But the idea that it's limited you'll have a lot of people buying 10-20 copies of the game each to sell later. And that's what Nintendo wants.

Remember when Activision said they weren't going to release the COD4 remaster separately from Infinite Warfare? Then did anyways? It's what I expect from this.

Making the physical release limited is one thing, as most physical games are produced for only so long anyway. But making the digital version also limited is a dick move IMO. It costs Nintendo nothing to just leave it on the store.

Just stop supporting companies who do it. Stop supporting companies like EA that have done, and still do similar things. It's okay to say "no" once in a while to developers and console makers.

There's no chance of this happening with Sony. They aren't this f*ckedup. Nintendo knows their fans like EA knows their Madden fans. Ez pz milking.

Nintendo seems blind to the fact that they enable scalpers to hurt consumers. This move is either a blind, bonehead move by Nintendo, or a brilliant plan to burn scalpers by saying later: "haha, we lied about this game being limited" to set up a trap for those who are unscrupulous.

Digital timed release is just plain BS. No reason or way to defend it. they need to reverse that choice immediately. That is a big mistake, but like I always say, if you can make a bad mistake you can always make a correction. Get on it Nintendo.

I agree. How the hell can you make the only available source of 3D mario on Nintendo Switch a limited time purchase for 6 months? Beyond stupid. There is always a catch with Nintendo.

What does your hatred for the Mario franchise has anything to do with Nintendo's "unpopular" policy on a limited-release game based on that franchise?

This doesn't effect me at all. I'm buying the game day one digitally. I don't have a pre order and I don't need one for this game. As long as I get the game why would I care if someone else didn't get it? It's not my job to look out for other gamers. I'm happy with the game and thats all counts to me.

@Solaryellow: yeah its true, thats why I like to,buy physical when I can, when next gen rolls around games that stop production are harder to,find, thats just how it goes. Finding a complete copy of def jam FFNY, super Mario sunshine, ninja gaiden black is kind of a hassle, and these old ass games are going for 60$+ now.

This ones probably going to end up being like the zelda anniversary collection was on gamecube.

Right now is a good time to load up on ps3/360 games while they are cheap, less and less game stores are carrying them.

They did the same thing with the Wii All-Stars pack. Not sure why - pretty sure they'd make more money if they didn't. But I also doubt it's nearly so "get 'em while they last!" as they claim.
