Full BC for ps5 could take 5-10 years (1-2 title/day)!

How come Xbox pulled this off for 3 previous generations on the get go and Sony is struggling to do it right for a single generation ?!

They don't seem very confident about their BC programme. We haven't even seen anything yet about their persumed BC.

How could BC embedded in the machine, if each title has to be tested separately?!

Just for the record, the only thing that MS got right with their xsx is BC but I expect them to fail in everything else.

Do you have a link or something to back this up? Otherwise it's just...

As for MS, they actually have struggled hard with this, and their progress is the result of a lot of investment. The 360 was the "bad bc" option in its gen, and last generation the X1 series had to go through what Sony is describing right now for the PS5. So... not really that different. The extent the XSeX can do it is thanks to having gone through those growing pains for well over a decade.

I am just using logic here.

If they can make 1 or 2 games fully playable on ps5 each day .. it will take 5 years

Be realistic guys

Don't buy into the hype

I don’t think it’ll take that long. It’ll probably work the same as what Microsoft is doing. Licensed product games likely won’t make the list unless the companies the made the game reworked their licensing arrangements. Also I think third parties have to give Sony the “ok” to make their games backwards compatible. Given that criteria we won’t be seeing all the games be playable on the PS5.

@2mrw: i think what's more likely is they will simply drop the whole plan after a couple of years. PS5 gamers will get a few hundred "top" BC games and that's it. Sony will expect them to have moved on by then and the backlash to be minimal. Their reference point: the Xbox 1 - There are 577 games made backward compatible out of 2085 that are released for Xbox 360, after 5 years of labor, and for the most part people seem to be happy and have moved on

Took them 10 years to allow gametag name change. Don't expect too much.

First things first the Xbox one has no BC you cant run Xbox 360 or xbox game disc one IT,you download a compatible versión, and the series x will play the games that are supported now by the xbox one,not the complete library.

Tormy, that is BC. Needing the disk is initial copyright, which is changing nowadays due to digital downloads. It's not as inclusive as the OG PS3 BC, but Sony had to include the hardware for that.

As for this thread, it's largely bollocks, and you could have just laughed it off.

@lundy86_4:

No is not BC is inserting your game as it is and allowing you to play it,the xbox 360 had BC that way,the xbox one doesn't have it because BC on it was an after though not something planned, the 360 was compatible with many games but not all of them since launch.

The xbox one cant even play xbox 360 or xbox games, you need to download a digital version,in fact of you dont have online you have no BC on xbox one.

@tormentos: The Xbox One has backward compatibility with specific games. The manner in which it achieves compatibility with older games is irrelevant. The ability to play older games is by definition backward compatibility. I do apologize that this reality is inconvenient for you.

LOL @tormentos thinking he's the only one that knows what BC is. The entire industry would label that the X1 being able to play certain 360 games is BC. You seem to think there is only 1 way to achieve the same goal.

Is Jim Ryan not a big fan of backwards compatibility? Thought I read an article a while back of him not a fan of the idea...
