It's the only thing I played, which is why I stopped buying them. $60 for a 5 1/2 corridor-linear, scripted-to-death shooting gallery campaign just wasn't worth it for me anymore.
Pretty much.
Plus it seems as they went along in the series, the campaigns got stupider and stupider (as far as outrageously convoluted plots and over the top set pieces). How many crashing helicopters and exploding jeeps can you dodge in one game LOL. Almost like they had to one up the previous entry in terms of set pieces to mission ratio.
Don't get me wrong, to some extent this franchise was always about "set pieces" and simplistic shooter gameplay. But at least when they were in WW2 it had a semi-authentic feel to it. As time went on you'd think they'd have gone for more game-play depth, more realism, more of an open world approach. Instead, they doubled down on the set pieces, and basically kept the linear gameplay the same. I think the insane popularity of COD4 and MW2 basically doomed the future entries in this franchise to just try and recapture what those games had. Unfortunately, all they keep trying to do is "one-up" the previous entry and they keep failing miserably.
I'm definitely itching for more of an ARMA or Operation Flashpoint type game at this point. It's been years for me since I've played one.
