For the people that buy Call of Duty, do you play the campaign?

I have a few friends that never touch the campaign part of the game (since MW2). They say that the campaigns are awful, but I always enjoyed them every game I played.

Do you buy Call of Duty to only play the multiplayer, or do you also play the campaign as well?

It's the only thing I played, which is why I stopped buying them. $60 for a 5 1/2 corridor-linear, scripted-to-death shooting gallery campaign just wasn't worth it for me anymore.

I only play the campaigns. I buy CoD 1 year behind so the most I ever pay is $15.

I am waiting until infinite warfare comes out and everyone trades in their copies of Black Ops 3 which will drastically reduce it's value. Then I'll get Black Ops 3 for cheap.

I love it. LOL at people who still pay $90 a year for these games.

I only played it for SP except dabbled in COD4 MP but it didn't stick when BFBC became my thing on MP, then all BF from then on even though SP sucked. Loved MW2 and World At War SP but hated Black Ops and MW3 SP and gave up after that. Might revisit Future Warfare if campaign is good, but not high on my list against other late 2016 releases.

People buy COD for MP when games like Team Fortress and Counter Strike are out there?

I know they do... just saying.

when I did buy COD, I always played the campaign first. I hadn't bought one since BLOPS until I picked up AW for under $25 on psn. Cant get through the campaign even now. I just find myself thinking, If I'm going to play an FPS I'll play Halo 5. So much more fun and more modes to enjoy.

absolutely, its usually my favorite part of the package. its also the reason why i'll more than likely never purchase another treyarch made cod again, the black ops titles have pretty awful campaigns imo, especially 3.

i don't put much time into the mp in cod anymore, more of a bf guy so a good sp is pretty important when deciding to purchase or not. that said i'm sold on infinite warfare. infinity ward has NEVER let me down in this dept.

The first two felt like an improved Medal Of Honor. It kinda just got really redundant after that.

It's the main reason I get them, along with the amazing Zombie mode. I prefer other shooters as far as online mp.

I have only played black op2 and black ops 3. I hated the campaign in Blops2 and I bought it used and half way through the game would lock up due to a scratched disk or something. I didn't really mind because I mostly cared about multiplayer and zombies which worked fine. I bought Blops3 new and actually enjoyed the campaign as well as the extra zombie campaign even though I wouldn't care to replay them. I have high hopes for the campaign in the new one.

I haven't played a COD's campaign all the way to the end since World at War. Only time I ever even do anything with campaign is if Live is down for some reason but usually if that's the case I'm doing something else cause playing solo is lame.

It's all about the online MP for me man

The ones I bought, I played the campaign. Can't say I liked any other than 1 and 4 though. I understand that mechanically the series has rarely evolved (especially after 4), and it's always been roller coaster territory, but the thing is the first game is still before they refined it into a glorified on rails game, and in the 4th game they had a better handle on cadence and pacing.

After that it was the same type of thrill, maybe a bit more "polished" but not necessarily an actual improvement. Just the core without the little touches that make Modern Warfare enjoyable in spite of what should be otherwise seen as a shallow core.

Campaign is the only reason I buy them. I haven't enjoyed a single COD MP since COD4 lol.

BO3's campaign was absolute rubbish though. I hope IW is a lot better.

Pretty much.

Plus it seems as they went along in the series, the campaigns got stupider and stupider (as far as outrageously convoluted plots and over the top set pieces). How many crashing helicopters and exploding jeeps can you dodge in one game LOL. Almost like they had to one up the previous entry in terms of set pieces to mission ratio.

Don't get me wrong, to some extent this franchise was always about "set pieces" and simplistic shooter gameplay. But at least when they were in WW2 it had a semi-authentic feel to it. As time went on you'd think they'd have gone for more game-play depth, more realism, more of an open world approach. Instead, they doubled down on the set pieces, and basically kept the linear gameplay the same. I think the insane popularity of COD4 and MW2 basically doomed the future entries in this franchise to just try and recapture what those games had. Unfortunately, all they keep trying to do is "one-up" the previous entry and they keep failing miserably.

I'm definitely itching for more of an ARMA or Operation Flashpoint type game at this point. It's been years for me since I've played one.

Yup, that's the ONLY reason I buy the series. And I NEVER buy them full price at $60, a waste of money for such a short but entertaining (some of them) campaign.

System Wars isnt a realistic sample of gamers. The gamers in this forum are heavily single player game slanted. Most of the the gamers I know, the average Madden/CoD/NBA2K guys, never play the campaigns. This is why Titanfall and Evolved skipped them. Devs cater to the internet crowd though, who are really a small minority that just complains extra loud.

Most average Joe gamers dont even post on forums.

Only COD I bought is BO3. I played the singleplayer with two friends. We had fun, lots of laughs and all that. But the story itself was boring as all hell. I don't think I would have finished it if it wasn't for coop.

Other COD campaigns I played are COD 2 The Big Red One (ps2) and Modern Warfare. It's been years but I remember liking Red One a lot and MW was pretty good too from what I remember.

I used to buy them for camps only , never touch online mode till I stopped after 6 (MW2) which came bundled with XB360 (I didn't intend to buy the game in the first place untill my previous XB360 RRoD on me).

I agree with what my friend said: he only gets the new CODs so he can try out the new guns. I may rent Infinite Warfare for that same reason, and to try out the Zombies mode that they have planned.

I know there are some who do. They buy a crappy game for lots of money and only play the worst part of the crappy game. And the devs collect money for making pure crap. It's very sad.

I wish they would release the campaign only and sell it for $20 or $25. I'd buy it without a second thought.

A 4 hour-long crapfest for 20 bucks? Ew. Maybe 5 bucks.
