Final Fantasy VII Remake coming March 3rd, 2020

We got to see more of Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Remake during a symphonic concert Los Angeles and got a release date: March 3, 2020.

The original Final Fantasy VII came out in 1997 for PlayStation. This remake, which features modern graphics and an action-based combat system, is coming to PlayStation 4.

Nice to finally have a release date for Final Fantasy VII. Hopefully the Xbox One version isn’t too far away from that as that’s the version that I’d like to get.

It's good we are getting it earlier next year rather than later.

Didn’t SE show that FF7 Tech Demo way back in 2006 or something? 12+ Years later sounds like their typical development timeline.

I'll wait for the complete edition for PC.

This episodic approach really ruined the game for me.

I almost wonder at this point if it would have been better had they just done a remaster rather than a full remake. HD hand-painted backgrounds and million-poly models would have looked fantastic, and still retained a lot of the charm of the original, but been fully upgraded. Rerecord the soundtrack, do all the sound effects over again, etc, etc. That could have been done in a couple years and still sold complete gangbusters.

Some people will get excited about anything. Square Enix lost it's way with Final Fantasy a very long time ago. They will never find their way back to greatness with the series.

Well i got it preorder for $40 bucks way back when amazon had the 20% off + Black Friday codes and no tax. Let's see how this goes.

As much as I hate to admit it, it's hard to disagree with you. Square better not mess this up like they did with KH3 and FFXV.

We don't know how the games will be split, if will there be a split of the main game or if the other games are sequels to the first game.

They never said episodic, they said FFXIII series set the template they'd follow.

Nobody knows if this is coming to any other platform nobody wants to wait a month or two while everyone is playing the game already

I am not getting ahead of myself with FF7R. The recent Final Fantasy games Square-Enix have produced have been disappointing. Final Fantasy 13, Final Fantasy 15 and Final Fantasy Dissidia NT are prime examples of past Final Fantasy games that have been a letdown.

Let's hope Square-Enix don't f**k up this time. I hope we hear news about FF8 port to the PS4 tonight.

Meh, I'll wait for the actual full game to be released...if I buy it

For those that still have some doubts here are some points:

• The only platform officially announced for it is PS4, most probably it will be released for PC and Xbox One too but to date nothing confirmed.
• It's a multipart game, the details of this haven't been shared, but for comparision sake it is like when the last book of harry potter was divided in 2 movies.
• It probably will never be released as a full package exactly like the lightning trilogy.
• It won't be a faithful remake of the original, the trailers have shown some things that never happened in the original and the developers have also confirmed it.

I would assume that today they will reveal Tifa.

And we don't know if this is part one or whatever because it's not stated anywhere or in any trailer that it's part 1, it's only written ffvii remake.

We still don't know if the sequels will be an original story or not.

I'd wait before making any claims if I were you or else you'll be owned.

I'm gonna wait. Even if they don't release a full-pack of the game, i'd like to play it back-to-back, rather than waiting around.

Yeah same here. I really hope the first release is ALL of FF7.

...and the others are just further sequels focusing on various characters and events after or before FF7.

If not I will likely wait and just play it on PC. I would hate to get to the end of the first release and then have to wait before continuing. I don't like taking long breaks from a game. I typically just restart.

This is all assuming it's not just a crappy action game I guess.

Still waiting to see ANYTHING beyond godamn Midgar cutscenes.

If this is 30+ hours of midgar I'm going to be p*ssed.

I want to believe that's what is going to happen, it's the strategy that makes more sense imo and it fits what they said about FFXIII setting the template. But if that's not the case, I hope they're expanding the story a lot and shedding more light in some confuse and obscure events of the original.

Multiple parts=/=episodic.

Kingdom Hearts has multiple parts, Tomb Raider has multiple parts, Batman Arkham has multiple parts.

Life is Strange has multiple episodes.

See the difference?

A thing that is cut into pieces has parts or pieces, not episodes.

Parts, episodes? All the same to me, no buy from me.

Sadly, for me, I find it difficult to accept DLC in video games, especially story DLC. I never liked the way FFXV panned out. Release a full game, then season passes and story DLC on top of it. Hope FF7R doesn't turn out like this.

I would love to see a full release of FF7R just like the PS1 days where you have three separate discs - but that will never happen in today's world. If the episodic release rumours turn out to be true, I would prefer it to be in three episodes like Disc 1-3. Otherwise, I don't know how I should be feeling.

The worst case scenario is 2 hours of gameplay for each episode. That would be hell.

The difference is: FF7 is a known quantity. We know where it begins and ends.

Anything less than the whole thing is just that.
