Final Fantasy IX has released on Steam.

And it's not a total shit fest.

So far the Game looks like it's meeting to exceeding expectations, Which is a good thing.

This game is a bit special to me because it was my first real experience in the Final Fantasy franchise which the only other game I had played was Mystic Quest.

What do you guys think? Gonna get it? Think this version will hit PS4? In anycase It looks amazing.

Going to wait to see if the port is any good and If so, the time has come for me to replay this superb game for the 3rd time but however, I'll wait till it hits $9 bucks or so cause I gotta but loads of games I'm trying to finish up as it is.

Overpriced and the higher res character models clash with the extremely blurry and low res backgrounds.

Damn, did they even announce that this was coming? I had no idea.

Anyways, I'll give it some time to make sure it's not a total shit fest. If it's as good as the PS1 version I'll get it. And if it somehow does away with the abysmal load times, I'll shit a brick of joy.

Anyone heard if they've made the battle system any faster (outside of using the cheats), I love IX, actually my favorite game in the series, but the battle system is so insanely slow.

There are options in the menu that allow you to hasten the game up to 2x and skip the panning camera when battles start. So yes.

It's better than the PS1 version emulated on PC, which was already better than the original PS1 version.

IMO this game should be played not fully screened.

It's been on my wishlist for months. Gonna grab it this weekend. I heard controller support was a little wonky (as it was with FF8), so hopefully it's overblown and/or being fixed.

There is a high- speed option, as well as an option for no fights (thank God).

I'd love to see a remaster/mod that uses the original hi-res CG renders (before they were downscaled for the PS1)...

I'd probably buy some of these remakes on PC, but why do they seem so inconsistent?

Just give me 1-9 as they originally released, only slightly modified to run at standard resolutions in today's world, and give them proper controller support.

It's like they have a mish-mash of ports from any system the games have shown up on ever.

I have bought it and honestly the game looked much better on the emulator. The latter allows to bump up backgrounds quality a bit.

The PC version has terrible audio sadly. They gave us the same compressed audio as mobile users, plus the mobile UI is taking too much of the screen away, this is especially bad in fights because your characters are hidden behind the stupid menu.

Looks good. Remember when this and Chrono Cross came out one after the other. Great year for Square and JRPGs in general.

unless you're one of those people that keeps saying that FFVII was the greatest and best looking one of all time and then you're not a real FF fan

My favorite FF game. I already own a physical and digital PS1 copy though. I won't get this until it's at least 50% off.

That is disgusting.

It's almost more worthwhile at this point to buy the original three PS versions of VII, VIII and IX.

The PS1 version is $14.99 on amazon, and I've never played it. Are the loading times (or whatever people complain about things taking too long), bad enough to go for the steam version vs the original? Have people who are complaining about how it looks, have actually played the steam version, or are they basing everything on screen shots?

Not at all. It has aged well for a PS1 game. I don't recall the load times being that bad.

FF9 looks like a decent port. I hope they port FF8 back to PC someday. The old original pc version was a terrible port and on modern pcs would be unplayable. I remember playing the demo and it was terrible and ended up just getting it on the ps1.

I have been playing th Steam version and it looks fine. The loading times are also fine.

meh I've been playing it for hours.... its not that bad, what was everyone expecting? happened to both FF7 and FF8 ...

Don't they have the CGI files or whatever they used to render those backgrounds? Obviously they lost them somewhere along the way if they're still using these low rez images. Seems strange that they would just loose or misplace what must have been thousands if not millions of dollars worth of artwork.
