this is what happens when you release exclusive on a dead console. square needed to go multiplat from the start. what an embarrasment.

https://metro.co.uk/2020/04/13/final-fantasy-7-remake-sells-less-half-final-fantasy-15-uk-sales-charts-12548763/

ff7 sold half what ff15 did in the uk. was it corona's fault? did people buy digital instead?

lets see how japan and npd numbers fare.

so much hype for this. what a shame.

Dude... it's expected. Same thing happened with Rise of the Tomb Raider. When you cut out half your potential base (or more in Tomb Raider's case reaching 80%), sales will not do as well as multiplatform games.

Yeah it’s very unfortunate that this game didn’t release on the other platforms at the same time. Oh well, I can wait.

yup big mistake by square to launch exclusive on PS4.

it will be interesting to see how it sells in japan. animal crossing is exclusive to 1 platform as well and sold 2 million in 1 week. will ff7 beat it?

Good lord yall are idiots. It says as soon as you click the link Physical sales were down because of the coronavirus ( less copies were made). This only tracks physical sales.

Lol and who the **** wants to play this on the Switch. It would get dubbed down to hell. It would sell 75% of its copies on PS4 anyway... its FF for christ sake.

Physical sales have been a lousy indicator for a few years now.

Also a shame it's exclusive because the game suffers for it.

well there is PC and xbox besides switch. you can argue the ps4 version is dumbed down compared to a PC version.

This article provides an explanation:

UK Charts: Final Fantasy 7 Remake is No.1 as boxed market grows again

Final Fantasy 7 Remake has suffered from severe distribution challenges caused by the coronavirus crisis, with physical game stores closed throughout the UK due to a Government-imposed lockdown. It's also ill-advised to compare sales for a game released in April with one launched during the Christmas sales window.

The Square Enix title did manage to sell double the launch sales of last week's classic PlayStation remake, Capcom's Resident Evil 3.

Five reasons why FF7R launched with less physical sales than FFXV in the UK:

  1. Digital sales likely account for the majority of sales during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  2. Physical copies face severe shipping shortages and distribution problems caused by the pandemic.
  3. All game stores in the UK closed due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
  4. FF7R released in April, whereas FFXV released in the more lucrative pre-Christmas period.
  5. FFVII Remake is a platform exclusive, whereas FFXV was a multi-plat release.

perhaps not during a global pandemic where shit is shut down and shipping and production has been interrupted

also from the start of that article:

Even before the coronavirus it became commonplace for sequels to sell considerably less than their immediate predecessors when it comes to physical sales, due to the rise of digital

I very much doubt FF7R has (or will) flopped in sales; only looking at physical sales is incredibly disingenuous considering the global pandemic and supply chain issues.

From my own perspective, I buy physical copies of most games (~80-90%) but, I'm going 100% digital for the foreseeable future because of COVID-19.

There was no UK lockdown when Animal Crossing released. The UK lockdown began the week after it released. And that's why Animal Crossing tanked in the UK during its second week:

UK Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sales Fall By 81% In Disappointing Week For Nintendo

Animal Crossing had a stellar first week (before lockdown), but a disappointing second week (after lockdown). So do you want to make a thread about how Animal Crossing flopped its second week in the UK?

@KBFloYd: The game wont sell 10% of its copies on Xbox. And the gap between PC versions and PS4 versions are nowhere close to the gap between PS4 versions and Switch versions. Things like Doom and TW3 look like completely different games.... this would be no different.

edit: japan state of emergency was april 7 and the last media create was april 5th...

dont matter...animal crossing is big everywhere despite the pandemic.

ff7 is 30fps on both the vanilla and the pro. it will be 60fps or maybe 120fps on PC. that alone makes it trash in comparison.

were those sales made before or after the declared state of emergency, and did the declaration result in an actual shutdown

That's weird because the deluxe edition is going for $200 or more online now. Glad I got mine before the scalpers attacked.

state of emergency or not the CDC has encourage quarantine since the virus became an issue back in februrary and animal crossing sold tons.

there was even a meme that animal crossing is the game thats saving everyone from quarantine boredom.

i dont believe corona killed ff7. i think ps4 is a dead console and the game is on 1 system only and its a mini series type game which turned a lot of people off as well.

  5. FFVII Remake is a platform exclusive, whereas FFXV was a multi-plat release.

wow

corona virus kills FF7 remake but allows animal crossing to live freely.

you want to make the thread? or should i?

There was no UK lockdown when Animal Crossing released. The UK lockdown began the week after it released. And that's why Animal Crossing tanked in the UK during its second week:

UK Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Sales Fall By 81% In Disappointing Week For Nintendo

Animal Crossing had a stellar first week (before lockdown), but a disappointing second week (after lockdown). So do you want to make a thread about how Animal Crossing flopped its second week in the UK?

and yet last week japan declared a state of emergency and animal crossing still sold almost a million physical. should i make that thread after yours?

were those sales made before or after the declared state of emergency, and did the declaration result in an actual shutdown

yea japan cant force shutdown. they dont have that ability in their law.

however its been reported many shops did close anyway.

but like i said to JAG ... quarantine and dsitancing has been recommended since februrary world wide. so dont give me the corona excuse.

@KBFloYd: I'm proud of you. They won't even know it.

Now, for the thread at hand, it's dumb and not thought out at all.

Just because it was recommended does not mean people were practicing it or that it was being enforced in any capacity. But it's not just about people going out to buy it but also disruptions from COVID19 pandemic to the supply chain and shipping, making availability a problem

i wish last of us 2 released this month i bet you that game's high sales would have helped my case by showing corona wasnt the reason. i guess we wait till sony releases digital+physical numbers?

Possibly not since it sounds like the delay was mainly due to logistical problems caused by the pandemic
