More details at Tom's Hardware and Wccftech.

Pretty cool that they made it an open standard, too, as opposed to the proprietary DLSS - such that they were able to test it on a GeForce GTX 1060. Might be throwing down the gauntlet a little bit, like they did with Mantle (the precursor to Vulkan).

And obviously, being AMD, it's quite likely we might see this come to Xbox Series X/S and PS5 too.

I wonder how it fares without the AI reconstruction.

Can't wait till this comes to Xbox Series X. The question is whether it will come to PS5.

If it works on Geforce 10 cards, why wouldn't it work on PS5?

60% improvement is certainly great and even works with older cards. Now I even have less reason to upgrade lol.

@Zero_epyon: true. I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t come to PS5. But stranger things have happened.

I want to see the quality first hand. They hyped DLSS and it was shit until 2.0. Also, this technique without the tensor cores is sus.

This. I'm not expecting much but it's better than nothing. They have to start somewhere.

What is RE8 village using on the new consoles? DF thought maybe it wasn't native 4k but couldn't tell for sure.

Neat but i definitely want to see what the cost is in terms of image quality. I am always suspect of things that interfere with the final image.

its great to see they have it up and running on older hardware too (from both camps and i suspect intel DGPU support is just a matter of time). thought it was only going to be RDNA2 and newer....maybe RDNA 1 also.

Strange that the RX 500 series was mentioned but not the 400 series. They are both the same polaris chip.

Didn't Microsoft wait a few more months until this tech was implemented into its console cards before starting production, hence why they launched less consoles than Sony at launch? Sony's cards supposedly don't have the tech needed in its current cards. Will have to wait for a mid-gen upgrade before the PlayStation sees this tech.

Am I wrong? I'm certain I've read about this month's ago.

@fedor: '@theam0g: A GTX 1060 can use it so I'm sure the PS5 will be fine.'

'Head of Xbox Phil Spencer revealed that Xbox Series X manufacturing lagged behind PlayStation 5 production because Microsoft had to wait for "some specific AMD technology," namely the Radeon RX 6000 Series of AMD RDNA 2 graphics chips.'

Still not sure what sort of tech we're talking here.

It is supposed to be compatible with the PS5. There isn't any reason it shouldn't be.

@girlusocrazy: Yeah, I am not surprised that the results are shit. This seems like some very misleading hype from AMD. FSR is not a competitor to DLSS.

That's a shame, I thought it could extend the life of my 1080ti a bit longer :(

Eh, let's be realistic. AMD cards lack the AI Tensor cores that make DLSS work. So AMD managing to make something that could be halfway decent without dedicated hardware is still an achievement.

DLSS. DF has a vid on it, FSR sucks and consoles won't even use it. Developers will keep using TAA, the best example was why would Insomniac use this trash.

Xbox has accelerator something, cannot remember. It is feasible it can use AI up-sampling, PS5 does not have this and so will be stuck with FSR and other traditional methods.

They both have ray tracing accelerators, but those do not handle deep learning. There is no tensor core equivalent on the consoles or AMD's PC GPUs.

Well according to that article, and it's the only thing I could find, and I think it was based on YouTube videos. I hope to see some more elaborate analysis.

I mean ok: I've seen some sources (going off the AMD presentation) state it's blurry.

But I wonder what would be better:

Running the game at 1440p and letting the TV or whatever do the upscaling to 4K

Or this new technology by AMD.

If it's the latter, than that is at least something.
