Ubisoft has just released the official Far Cry 6 PC specifications, and they're steeper than we had imagined, particularly if you plan to activate ray tracing features (reflections and shadows). In that case, you'll need an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or Intel i7-10700K CPU and an AMD RX 6800 or NVIDIA RTX 3080 GPU, and that's just to play at 4K and 30 frames per second.

MINIMUM FAR CRY 6 PC SETTINGS

1080p, 30 FPS, DirectX Raytracing Off

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 1200 – 3.1 GHZ or Intel i5-4460 – 3.2 GHZ

GPU: AMD RX 460 – 4 GB or NVIDIA GTX 960 – 4 GB

RAM: 8 GB (Dual-channel mode)

Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended)

RECOMMENDED FAR CRY 6 PC SETTINGS

1080p, 60 FPS, DirectX Raytracing Off

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X – 3.8 GHZ or Intel i7-7700 – 3.6 GHZ

1440p, 60 FPS, DirectX Raytracing Off

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600X – 3.8 GHZ or Intel i7-9700 – 3.6 GHZ

GPU: AMD RX 5700XT – 8 GB or NVIDIA RTX 2070 SUPER – 8 GB

RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)

Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended) + 37 GB for HD textures (optional)

GPU: AMD RX VEGA64 – 8 GB or NVIDIA GTX 1080 – 8 GB

RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)

Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended)

1440p, 60 FPS, DirectX Raytracing On

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X – 3.7 GHZ or Intel i5-10600 – 4.1 GHZ

GPU: AMD RX 6900XT – 16 BG or NVIDIA RTX 3070 – 8 GB

RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)

Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended) + 37 GB for HD textures (optional)

4K, 30 FPS, DirectX Raytracing On

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X – 3.7 GHZ or Intel i7-10700k – 3.8 GHZ

GPU: AMD RX 6800 – 16 GB or NVIDIA RTX 3080 – 10 GB

RAM: 16 GB (Dual-channel mode)

Storage: 60 GB HDD (SSD Recommended) + 37 GB for HD textures (optional)

Additional Far Cry 6 PC Features:

  • Uncapped framerate
  • In-depth customization options
  • Hybrid input and extended control customization
  • Multi-monitor and widescreen support
  • In-game benchmark for performance analysis
  • DirectX Raytracing (DXR)
  • AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution Support

The real saving grace for Far Cry 6 on PC might be AMD's FSR, as the recommendations are based on tests that did not include this performance-saving technology. It might be possible to get close to 60 FPS once FidelityFX Super Resolution is enabled, especially if you're willing to use the Balanced or Performance settings.

I don't care. What matters most is being able to have cute little pets that help you in battle. I simply cannot wait to purchase them all for $9,99 a pop on their mtx store. I am a gamer.

Don't have an RTX 3090 and even if I did, I wouldn't use it for 4K gaming, just 1440p/165hz with everything running max settings. Anyhow, my RTX 2070 will do the job just fine playing FC6, a game I'm looking forward to. 4K in general is just out of my league.

Also, the prophecy says that the RTX 3090 Super will run this game in 4K/60fps😎😏

So they expect a €1650 GPU, more than 4 times (!) the cost of a PS5 for the GPU alone, to run terrible graphics at 4K/30 when Demon's Souls or Returnal look vastly superior and run in 60 fps.

That's absolutely absurd.

@davillain-: Will you be getting Far Cry 6 day one?

I am very excited to play, but may be waiting for the Uplay store Black Friday deals.

I can never say no to Giancarlo Esposito on a day one purchase! Giancarlo has a weird ability to passively command respect and attention from the viewers.

They'll sell more copies on PC than all the consoles combined because of it. If you were a developer, you wouldn't shut out half your potential consumer base by making an inefficient load of crap either. Btw, the console version will likely be about the equivalent of medium PC settings anyway.

It's been over a decade since Ubisoft releases were badly optimized on PC. Plus, they give you a discount all the time.

From the official stores:

Far Cry 6 PS5: 70 euro

Far Cry 6 Uplay store: 48 euro

These requirements make no sense at all. Why is it becoming cpu bound at 4K? Why is a 3070 and 6800xt good for 1440p ray-tracing but suddenly at 4K they need the worse 6800?

I got it for free with an AMD purchase so just waiting for the key to unlock.

Not sure when I'll get a chance to play it though.

Well, bad optimization was a shi*ty icing on a shi*ty cake. The reason I said this is Ubisoft games aren't worth your time no matter how optimized or cheap they are.

Same here with FC5 on PC, hardly no issues on my end. Watch Dogs: Legion was bad but later on it got patch and runs okay. For the most part, I personally enjoy most of Ubisoft games, they are a hit or a miss.

Yup, the Anvil Engine Next is pretty bad.

On the other hand the Snowdrop engine is one of the best (PC) engines around. I hope it powers both the new Avatar and the new Star Wars game.

I enjoy them in a spread out way. Origins and Odyssey took me over a year to beat.

When all you do is play ubisoft games day in day out, they get pretty tiring. But they are fun for short bursts.

Well, I'd love to see the game with my 3090, but eh, I'll probably wait for a sale. Far Cry games just get so boring, so quick.

Curious as to why the cpu requirements are higher for 1440p vs 1080p, I would think the increase in resolution would 100% put more load on just the graphics card.

Stronger the gpu the more frame data needs to be sent to the gpu faster with a higher FPS target. This is why you dont see too many people pairing an four year old cpus with newer gpus when targeting higher frame rates. Ive seen someone pair an i7 7700k @4.5ghz with a RTX 2080ti running 4k and see his gpu being pegged upto 97% usage the whole time while playing BF5 Multiplayer and encountering frame time and stutter issues. While any modern 8 core 16 thread cpu barely sees 50% usage with a RTX 3080 being a stronger gpu than 2080ti.

While past games at 4k creates a more gpu bound than cpu bound scenario. This is changing because the XSX & PS5 and modern gaming Pc's are using stronger cpu's and gpu's and are now typically targeting 4k all the time and can run it at higher fps. These games are becoming more complex since there are more resources available to do more vs what the previous consoles/ hardware could do.

So we have to presume the HD textures won't even be included in the console versions. And what's with the 30fps at 4K on a 3080? Is that with raytracing on max? What about DLSS?

If I'm getting 30fps at 4K on my 3080 Ubisoft can go f*** themselves. Backwards.

Both the 1080p and 1440p recommended specs are for 60fps though.

However the gpu strength to get 60fps on each resolution is different. And the quality of settings play a role too. Which turn requires a stronger cpu to feed each gpu bracket for a set performance target.

"According to Ubisoft"

For the 1080p to get 60 fps needs a GTX 1080 while at 1440p needs a RTX 2070S. While at 1440p @ 60 fps with Raytracing enabled at 1440p needs a RTX 2080ti/3070 with a stronger CPU because CPU is having to feed stronger GPU's along with more frame data with "RayTracing" data.

I g et why they hype the high end, but honestly these days it seems borderline out-of-touch and even insensitive to do that. Most of us aren't getting any new cards.

I'd rather see them showcase how well it will run on lower-end cards than a card almost no one has.

In either case, Far Cry games have always seemed to be well-optimized and run well with modest hardware. I'm looking forward to playing this at 1440p with high settings on my 2080, getting some good frames.
