Famitsu - Switch over 1.2 Million sold YTD in Japan, Splatoon over 671k Sold in 3 days

Splatoon 2 has sold through 670,955K (physical) units in its first 3 days in Japan according to Famitsu. This doesn’t include eShop sales. This sales performance makes it the highest selling Switch game in Japan so far and (obviously) the highest selling debut sales of a Switch game in Japan.

102K Nintendo Switches were also sold in Japan in this period. Switch console total sales in Japan is now 1,205,087.

The first Splatoon’s Japanese debut sales were 156,610 (physical) on a Wii U install base of 2,333,622.

I am so very glad the Splatoon IP turned out to have legs. When I first played it on Wii U I was sold immediately, but never ever would've guessed it's uniqueness and quirkiness would get it to be this popular.

Hopefully many more games and spin-offs will follow. I think a full fledged singleplayer platforming game would also really suit the IP.

Honestly, I'd be surprised if Nintendo DIDN'T put the Inklings in the next Smash game, whether it be a "Smash 4 Deluxe" or an entirely new smash game.

Yeah great news, Arms selling huge in only 2 weeks, 1,2 switch selling over a million, Nintendo must had made big dollars on that game, though they did spend so much on advertisements on it.

Splatoon 2 deserves gta5 level sales, the game is amazing, the most fun I've had gaming in many years.

That's quite good. I'm glad that Arms broke 1 million. I am having fun with that game.

I'd guess it's over 5 million now since those numbers are through the end of June. Think it's a good bet that the Switch will eclipse 10 million by 2018.

Already over 1/3 through Wii U's lifetime sales in just four months. Amazing what having decent hardware (for a portable) and a big system-selling game at launch can do.

Congratulations to Nintendo on a strong start. Let's see if they can keep this up.

Considering the typical proportions, Switch should be close to 300k in this month's NPD as well. It'll be at nearly 5.3 million shipped WW by the end of the month, and will beat Wii U's first year weeks before Q2 ends in September.

I was pleasantly surprised how much there is to Splatoon 2. Some of the most fun Ive had with gaming in quite a while. Its crazy easy to jump in to online matches with friends.

All these TFLOPs, resolution, and FPS arguments be damned. This is how gaming should be, about the fun! Go Nintendo!

@svaubel: I mean, Nintendo cares about frames per second more than 90% of developers. One of the reasons Splatoon 2 is so much fun is that it runs at a locked 60FPS.

Happy to see Switch doing well, more 3rd party devs are likely to take the plunge.

S2 is much more enjoyable than the freshman offering. The single player has depth though I don't know if there is any reward for completing each level with all ten or so weapons. The MP is so much more fun and appealing than what I remember and I attribute some of that to the pro controller. When I played the first with the game pad, god, it was uncomfortable. Why it is selling like hotcakes is obvious.

I can't wait to pick up a switch and splatoon this fall :-)

The digital sales broke the E-shop. They will have something like a 80-90% attachment rate.

Splatoon 2 is a great game on top of that. Salmon Run is addictive and so much fun.

It's a good game, so I'm glad it's selling well.

@charizard1605: remember when haters here stated that the Switch wouldn't sell with the $300 price tag and "weak hardware" as well as marketed as a console? LOL, this is gonna hit 10 million sold by the end of the year and I bet Japanese developers are already gearing up to make more Switch titles.

Splatoon is legit a monster now lol. An easy 1 mill first week, probably 1.5 million. And considering the current install base of the Switch it's even more insane.

So, this is interesting. Looking at Nintendo's reports, there should have been 80k unsold Switch units sitting around in Japan as of June 31. In other words, 93-94% sell through for Switch hardware. Based on what I've learned, 85-90% is the ideal sell through that most companies aim for.
