Oculus VR announced today that EVE: Valkyrie, the EVE Online-based space dogfighting simulator, will be an "exclusive launch title" for the Oculus Rift headset. Describing it as "one of the first AAA games designed exclusively for the Rift," Oculus said Valkyrie is "a brilliant showcase for the power of VR." A demo for the game won several awards at E3 2013 and also made a big splash at CES 2014 in January.

"We strongly believe the best VR experiences are going to be the ones built from the ground up for VR, and we've kept that in mind whilst developing Valkyrie," CCP said in a statement. "We wanted people to really feel like they were there - to sense the vastness of space, feel the confined area of the cockpit and get that adrenaline rush as you see an exploding fighter whiz past your head."

Oculus also announced the release of the Oculus Latency Tester as open source hardware, meaning that anyone can "freely use, modify, distribute, tear apart and even sell the project or pieces of it to your heart's content." People who have a need for the tester but don't feel like building one of their own can also order it online.

You do realise this is Eve: Valkyrie Not EVE ONLINE? it is a Seperate dog fighting sim and has nothing to do with the MMO

@TheFadeForever: right, just like Dust... I'm not convinced CCP are "AAA developers" ... they happened to make a MMORPG concept that was fun 10 years ago.... and lucked out by having players that actually made the game seem better than it was by doing slow-repetitive things on a grand scale.

Reading about EVE is always impressive... actually doing it yourself now in 2014 though.... its completely the opposite.

Couple this with WiiMote and Nunchuck with Motion Plus (or PS Move if Sony will use it) and you have the beginnings to true Virtual Reality Gaming. Trailer looks great. I'll wait for gameplay now. Thanks for the heads up

You do know AAA doesn't mean "good game", right? Simply means it's a big-budget project.

Telling about where Oculus stands patent-wise with their platform. Why else do you pursue publishing?

I'm not sure if a space combat shooter is the best way to show off the oculus rift.

That looks amazing but I can't believe they are making rift exclusive games? That can't possibly end well

after all that hype it's funny what a huge failure the rift was and how they are all gathering dust in the bottoms of peoples closets now.

@SEANMCAD:

The Oculus Rift was partially crowfunded most of the money they got was not from Kickstarter only 2.4 million out of the 91 million they received came from crowdfunding. Also I'm talking about the game Eve: Valkyrie that's being published by the company behind the Oculus Rift. And there is no such thing as a indie product because a product is just a product.

Hell yeah... now we're talking business!

PS: I would like to say a nice "**** you" to all those people that called Oculus Rift and VR in general to be a no sense gimmick.

http://www.slate.com/articles/technology/future_tense/2013/12/oculus_rift_review_the_virtual_reality_headset_will_change_everything.html

http://wccftech.com/version-oculus-rift-virtual-reality-headset-showcased-ces-2014/

"The Oculus Rift is a consumer-focused virtual reality headset that made its start onKickstarter in August 2013, where it asked for $250,000 but earned nearly $2.5 million in backing. Since then, it’s picked up loads more venture capital (about $91 million in total) to produce its mass-market product due sometime in 2014 at a targeted cost of about $300. It’s fair to say that it’s earned a few believers with deep pockets already."

@SEANMCAD:

. Oculus VR is co publishing the game with CCP and right now we do not how much they are involved in the game unless CCP gives us more information.
