Epic Games: Fortnite Battle Royale coming to Android & iOS with cross-platform play [UPDATE: gameplay trailer]

Epic Games has announced Fortnite Battle Royale will be coming to Android and iOS. This will include cross platform play between Android, iOS, PC, Mac and PS4.

Hey Fortnite Community,

Fortnite Battle Royale is coming to mobile devices! On phones and tablets, Fortnite is the same 100-player game you know from PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Mac. Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates. Starting Monday, you can sign-up for the Invite Event on iOS. Support for Android will be coming in the next few months.

In partnership with our friends at Sony, Fortnite Battle Royale will support Cross Play and Cross Progression between PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android. This means players across devices can squad up with friends and play together.

We believe this is the future of games. The same game on all platforms. Console quality graphics and action. Play when you want, where you want.

Sony is protecting the kids from Xbox lol. Seriously this proves that Sony's view of crossplay is purely business. Fortnite is bigger then PUBG and very very good for PSN.

Porting for the sake of it? Maybe it’s for the cost-minded markets where phones are the singular computing device a person owns.

Yeah perhaps also for the Chinese market where PUBG is already on mobile.

An Xbox One controller (Bluetooth) should be able to pair with an Android device.

I'm not sure that would work on an iOS device without jailbreak.

Yeah, so now there are two options for cross platform players:

Option 1 - Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and Android

Option 2 - PS4, PC, Mac, iOS and Android

It's a shame they couldn't have all of the systems together.

I can already imagine playing Fortnite on my phone up against PC users. *Deads on the very first minute.

Sony doesn't want to do cross platform with MS. Holding back the gaming industry for no reason.

@UssjTrunks: They know Live is a superior network service competitor. Keyword Competitor. They don't want to surrender PSN install base. Sony more then anyone relies on third party network games to drive PSN subs this gen. MS fucked up and lost there most important multiplatform audience. They know bitching about Cross Play is one way to get some back, to remind everyone Live is superior. It also doesn't hurt that there in the consumer friendly side on this. They got a superior console now all is left is for people to no longer need PSN to play with there friends. Sony will eventually come around when the business no longer makes sense.

MS was also not crossplay friendly back when Live was king.

I guess PC gamers will get really easy kills soon, then.

And I guess PC gamers will never play duo with randoms, in fear of being paired with someone on a fucking ipad.

@Litchie: @MBirdy88: i use mouse and kb on ps4 to play with my friends. It is natively compatible.

I am pretty sure others do it too.

Yea the main advantage is the mouse, but there are other elements.

@Litchie: I'm not really sure. I hope it works for other games too. The only drawback is that you can't see the mouse in a lot of menus in fortnite (lol!) And having to plug them back into my computer... lol.

Well, now I can just play with my ps4 buddies using my pc too.

So when are they going to announce a Switch version? If Fortnite can run on mobile, it can certainly run on Switch.

Potentially when Nintendo Online launches in September.

I signed up for the beta, hopefully I get a download link soon. I'm curious to try it (even if I didn't really enjoy it on my computer).

I'll wait for the inevitable Switch version since it can crossplay with the Xbox One, PC, and Mobile devices.

Refresh rate isn't really gonna make a huge difference.

Just realized that cross play has been available for fortnite from ps4 to pc for a while now. How did I not notice this before?

Just installed the game myself, but god dam game looks insanely good on my new screen. Never saw such bright colors everywhere. the AA is also super.

Hopefully you're not waiting too long. I am a bit surprised they haven't announced it sooner, clearly the hardware is not the issue.

Oddly enough, one of the supported devices for the game on iOS is the iPad Mini 4. To put that into perspective, the Mini 4 uses Apple's A8 which launched in 2014. So the bar is set rather low.

It's rather vivid in its range of colours.

I love how bigger mainstream sites are saying “top-tier” or “real” gaming has finally hit mobile because of Fortnite. So, I dunno wtf I’ve been playing all these years on my mobile devices.
