https://www.gamespot.com/articles/elden-ring-has-gone-gold-will-take-around-30-hours-to-beat/1100-6499891/

From Software has completed development on the long-awaited Elden Ring, with a "master" version being submitted for approval, the developer has confirmed. Work isn't completely done, though, as the developers are now working on a day one patch that will include updates and optimizations.

Elden Ring "going gold" was confirmed during the Taipei Game Show, where From Software also discussed Elden Ring's length. Producer Yasuhiro Kitao said play time will vary depending on a number of factors, but the main route should take players around 30 hours.

"This will differ significantly by player but in terms of targets set during development, the idea is that the main route should be able to be completed within around 30 hours," Kitao said. "The game as a whole is quite massive, and contains many dozens more hours worth of gameplay but if we are talking about the main route only, it shouldn't take much longer than that."

As for the day one patch, From Software didn't announce specifics about what's included apart from updates and optimizations based on feedback from the network test.

Elden Ring was originally slated to launch in January before being delayed to February 25. It will launch that day across PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Author George R.R. Martin, who wrote the novels that got turned into Game of Thrones on HBO, wrote Elden Ring's backstory and mythology.

February 2022 is shaping up to be a huge month for new game releases. In addition to Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Sifu, Horizon: Forbidden West, and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen are all on the wayduring the shortest month of the year.

Thoughts, SW? I was kind of expecting more, though I understand you can do side quests and all that. But for a massively hyped RPG, was thinking more.

Their games aren't as long as people make them out to be. My first Bloodborne playthrough lasted 22 hours.

I probably won't play Elden Ring for years. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II, loved them. Dark Souls III, Bloodborne, Sekiro, eh. I guess they're still good compared to most other games of the times, but I'm tired of the delayed attacks and confusing animations that FromSoftware inserted to appease the "git gud" crowd, among other annoyances. Also really not excited to play what is effectively Dark Souls IV in terms of art. It's sad to see all their creativity go to waste on familiar ground.

It'll be padded with a few DLC add-ons no doubt, maybe wait for the official GOT edition for double the content at an affordable price.

Thank God. If I want to play it more I'll play it more, but I am tired of getting dragged slowly through a mire by games. I'm even more excited now

Prob take me longer than this, think first run of even Dark Souls: PTE was about 60-70 odd hours. Pretty fucking snail like when it comes to games.

I have never taken less than 106h (on first playthrough and exploring/collecting everything) to beat any Fromsoft titles (excluding Sekiro). No idea how these 30h are in comparison to the other Fromsoft titles. Since this is an open world game, it is guaranteed that i will do every single side content before completing the story.

I finished the Souls games in around 40 hours each (not rushing but not completionist either) so that sounds about right.

be interesting to see how side content is structured

Bloodborne is by far the shortest of the bunch.

A usual Dark Souls playthrough for a first-timer will usually be in the 40 hours range for the main story and 60 ish hours with side content.

This can vary widely based on how good you are though.

Wow that's garbage.

Imagine anyone who was hyped for Smellden Ring

Dark Souls recorded average 42.5 hours to complete, 105 hours to 100 %

BOTW recorded average 50 hours, 189 hours to 100%

The Witcher 3 recorded average 3 51.5 hours, 173 hours to 100%

30 hours for the main game is good.

This is an open-world game, however, so I imagine people won't have any trouble getting 100 or more hours out of it. The question is IMO is the side content worth it? Open-world games live and die by their open-world content.

It's significantly less game than Dark Souls, BOTW or The Witcher 3

Quality over quantity. A steak is less food and more money than a large bag of potatoes.

But unless you are starving most people would prefer the steak.

30 hours is how long a game should be in my opinion. I normally get burnt out by 80 + hour games.

Short game will wait on discount then, 20 bucks will do.

Witcher 3 was 123 hours for me

Ac origins was 80 hours

AC odyssey 180 hours

AC valhalla 170 hours.

Not sure why people are whining, did you even read the post?

"This will differ significantly by player but in terms of targets set during development, the idea is that the main route should be able to be completed within around 30 hours," Kitao said. "The game as a whole is quite massive, and contains many dozens more hours worth of gameplay but if we are talking about the main route only, it shouldn't take much longer than that."

It doesn't read like the game is going to be short on content.

So weird reading people finish these games. I thought they weren't meant to be beatable, I can barely make it past the first boss.

I thought the length was good. But I didn't play all the DLCs..

Yeah, felt like DS3 was a bit like.. the "casual Dark Souls". It's easier than their previous games. That, along with reused assetts might contribute to it feeling a bit forgettable.

Is it? I find myself getting bored with games about then unless it's some sort of sandbox.

Again, it's 30 hours for the story. You'll likely be playing the game for far longer than that.

Anyone worried about this game from a value standpoint need not be, I reckon.

Really ??? i loved DS3 ... the only part i didn't fully enjoyed was Farron Keep but even that has one of the best boss battles in the entire series. I know this is unpopular, but as much as i like Bloodborne, i actually liked DS3 more.

Anyway ... for those who think that 30 hours is a "short game" because AC has like 80 hours of pure padding you are either trolling, you have never played a Souls game or you are just dumb ... no other way around it.

Ugh. This game again? Taking the worst game series ever, the souls-type game, and making it open world is going to be even worse. I can't believe anyone actually wants to play this, but I sure won't be wasting 30 hours on it.

It just depends how completionist you are. 30 hours is nothing to sneeze at.
