I don't see why the sports games should take up more space,, they can render player bodies without a library of textures for every individual player, except maybe the faces, and each team jersey can be replicated... why should it take up more they're sport games?

And I see you haven't noticed BF4 (an EA game genius) takes up 35GB.

Crysis is 6GB and beats COD: Ghosts graphically with its 39GB.

What do game sizes mean ? Not a lot.

@lamprey263: Number of teams and players is huge. 2K has all the euro leagues and all the legend teams from well into the 1960s. Plus all player animations are player specific and textures as well, because of tattoos and scars. SPorts games are just as deep and any other genre even more so when done the right way.

This doesn't prove anything. CoD Ghosts is among the biggest next-gen titles so far (size-wise), and yet it looks like utter shit.

I actually wonder what did they put in those files.

It recycles cutscenes from MW2.

BF4 is 4GB smaller yet offers vastly superior graphics and way more content.

What content? A short singleplayer campaign and the multiplayer portion?

You get the same crap like on the current-gen versions, only with slightly better graphics.

I'm not defending EA's titles. But how in the world could next-gen CoD Ghosts version take more size than KZ:SF which looks 10 times better?

Games on the PC are mostly the size or less than those of the EA games and graphically are more advanced than the next gen titles, I don't see the relevance.

The fitness games on there have massive sizes. I'd beable to download five 30gig games and my Cap is up for a month.

I'd love to know what most of that data is for. The textures in CoD: Ghost are shocking, and they still use recycled sound assets from much older CoD games. I'm pretty sure this is a ploy to force people to buy larger HDDs for their consoles, which they'll overcharge for.

None of the games I have installed currently are over 15gigs. Arma 3 only takes up 10.5gigs of space, and (unmodded) Skyrim is exactly 10gigs.

Even though it's the same shit every year with the EA titles, I agree. Game sizes don't indicate anything, who knows what kind of things they might have in it. CODG's huge size could be because of some poorly compressed SFX files or something.

Comparing file sizes is moot as we don't know what level of compression devs are using.

This, game size is more about how many cutscenes it has than the graphics quality.

Exactly, the space is definitely not used for high resolution textures, because there are none. I don't know about consoles but the system requirements on PC: 6GB of RAM, 40GB HDD, GTX780 are a joke. They have to do with incompetence moreso than graphics quality.

@Cranler said:

Yup, cows loved to boast about the size of MGS 4 last gen, but most of that space was used for cutscenes. Same with Max Payne 3 on PC: it's a very large game because of its cutscenes.

I don't mind a game taking up a lot of space though, if its justified.

Wait...you are complaining about file size? And at that, bitching about how small it is? WTF is wrong with this picture? Not sure about the rest of you, but for me, the smaller, the better. The smaller the file size, the more games I can fit on my HDD.

Most of the disk space will be bluray quality cutscenes and audio. Sports games are going to have little of both, audio is mostly recycled commentary, recycled crowd chants and like 30 songs from bands.

Sports games will only have like 3 hours worth of audio and the cutscenes are just when the game loads up, compared to say Battlefield that will have 14 hours of musical score and other sounds on top of that, plus likely 1-2 hours of cutscenes.

Not sure why NBA2K is so big though, I can pretty much guarantee that Fifa and the other sports game will be using Dolby Digital only, so that will make them smaller too and probably compressed video if it is DVD size. A bit unfortunate really I expect PCM, DTS master audio or Dolby TrueHD 5/7.1 for all games on PS4/One.

Civ 5 takes a grand total of 8.2 GB of space, and that's including DLC and expansions. Using hard drive space as an indication of graphics is fallacious.

@DarthaPerkinjan: I think they are still using the same old engines from the PS2 games to be honest. They haven't rebuilt any of their graphic engines for current gen games. they just improved the resolution and the graphic animations.

NBA 2K14 is arguably the best graphics of the nex-gen release titles IMO.

And just one look at EA's NBA Live trailer and I wouldn't have argued with you if it said the size was 4GB. A swirling cauldron of fail.

Titanfall and the PC version of BF4 begs to differ.
