EA Actually Does NOT Support Smart Delivery

I did find it odd that EA was using their own terminology instead of outright using Smart Delivery. Turns out if you want to get Madden for a “free upgrade” on Xbox Series X, you actually need to buy the game BEFORE Dec 31st and update it/own on a Xbox Series X before March to get the upgrade free. So if you buy the game in January, you will have to rebuy the game if you want it to take advantage of Xbox Series X features.

It also sounds like all EA games will have a similar “upgrade” timeline. So when you buy a game by EA, you will only have a few months to buy and upgrade it before they force you to rebuy the game for the next generation consoles.

EA sure likes money.

Well, game will probably be dirt cheap by then, and on EA Access.

I wish sports games weren't so popular, just so we didn't have to deal with EA. Still, i'm sure they'd manage to line their pockets regardless of that.

I was under the impression that it was related to the licensing of Madden.

Well I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though. To be fair though I’ll be getting the Xbox One at launch so it’s not like I’ll be buying any cross gen games on my current system anyway.

@Pedro: I don’t know. But like this guy said, EA never used “Smart Delivery” or “cross buy”. They just say free upgrade. On there website when describing “free upgrade” madden isn’t exclusive to how they are gonna do it.

I don't buy many EA games, as they primarily focus on the NA market with Madden/NHL/NBA, well there is FIFA but that doesn't affect me so i'm good. I guess no one is surprised by this move by EA.

The only games I buy from them are the NFS games, and the next one won't be until mid-late 2021, so i'm good.

They sell the same games each year, and they're big sellers, I don't see why they would want to stop doing it.

Im sure other third parties will do the same. think about 2 years from know when the xbox one game is sold used do you think they should still get a free copy of the one sold twice as much the series x version?

or even 6 months into the series x version.

but gamepass will be the way you get around that.

I love that when the story broke it made EA sound like good guys and that they WERE supporting it. Hell, I even told my wife that they (the company that literally won worst company like 5 years in a row.. like no joke) were doing something pro consumer. However then I learned they weren't and it was all smoke and mirrors.. lol. You do you EA.. you beautiful bastards you..
