EA acquires Respawn

Well, looks like we have another studio closer to look forward to in a few years.

EA has confirmed via Twitter that they are in the process of acquiring Titanfall developer Respawn.

Not a truely surprising move, given their last two title where both published by EA, but it also probably means that Titanfall 3, if it ever comes, won't be handled as well as the 2nd game was.

The first two games were amazing, didn't get the sales they deserved. The third game, well, I forsee them renaming the series to LootboxFall. Too bad :(

Seems risky to sell to EA. We all know how EA likes to impose their will on devs and then shut them down once the game flops.

They are working on a Star Wars game as one of their projects too. This is not good.

Titanfall 2 was an excellent game so I’m definitely looking forward a Titanfall 3. Also very interested in seeing what their Star Wars game will be like.

it was a huge disappointment compared to TF1. EA already ruined TF now they are gonna ruin respawn as a whole

Just ditch singleplayer and go epic battlefield multiplayer with the next Titanfall. Singleplayer was okay in Titanfall 2 but multiplayer took a huge hit and didnt build off of Titanfall.

Just destroy everything they touch.

I thought EA already owned them, to be honest. Titanfall/2 was fun & amazing. Great franchise & Respawn will be fine.

on topic: while titanfall 2 was best EA publish game since Crysis 1/warhead. i have bad feeling about next game.

respawn are talented developers. they can make a great SP campaign once again. but EA would dictate them to shorter the length to they can market it as MP game.

I guess it would probably be a FPS. I'd like a 3rd person action star wars game or even an RPG/open world game. But at least these guys are competent, so whatever it is it probably wouldn't be trash.

I hadn't heard of this, but It says on their website it's "action-adventure", so I actually take this as good news. I'm assuming Battlefront is going to be getting a rest for awhile and Dice will be going back to Battlefield, so it makes perfect sense EA needs another studio to get a Star Wars in the pipeline. If we want a quality star wars game, they could have given it to a worse developer or just done an Activision style low-budget cash-grab.

TF2? You mean the game that was overshadowed by Battlefield 1? EAs Battlefield 1!!!

Another Star Wars game got "pivoted".

I was looking forward to Respawn's star wars game. I'm a huge fan of their sci fi shooters.

But with the current state of "games as a service" "lootboxes for progression" EA is trying to push in their games, I just can't get myself hyped anymore.

Respawn you were good while you lasted... RIP in peace

I want single player focus titanfall 3. that would be amazing game by respawn. but sadly EA will never allow them.

I'm shocked that Vince Zampella allowed EA to buy out Respawn seeing that he and his people got screwed over by Activison when they use to be at Infinity Ward. EA is just as bad as Activision.

Unholy cowzerzzz, so that means when MS buys EA they get Respawn as well... Just wowzerz, that's one heck of a coup, MS. :P

You are acting like Titanfall 2 had a bad singleplayer because they included a multiplayer mode.

Titanfall 2s singleplayer is fine.

Titanfall 2 SP is great but its too short and EA will shorten once again for the sake of MP. plus the ending feel rushed. we dont even fight main villains.

I want titanfall 3 to have complete SP focus first then MP.

Sure man, SP only where you buy lootboxes to progress through the campaign.

i was talking in terms of the PvP huge step down from TF1. TF1 didn't have a SP campaign to compare it to TF2

@ghosts4ever: Yeah thats what im saying, Singleplayer took away a lot of focus on Multiplayer in Titanfall 2. Titanfall was awesome, the amount of activity going on with attrition maps was awesome with the a.i. grunts. Titanfall 2 multiplayer was smooth but didnt expand on anything. I finished singleplayer and went back to Titanfall multiplayer as Titanfall 2 multi was a letdown besides having more weapons.

The lore with Titanfall is so grand that if they implemented everything with monsters interrupting matches, bringing back the grunt a.i.(with more classes) and adding rts with where they can be deployed to assist in objective battles. Mutliplayer if fully envisioned would crap on any singleplayer campaign that people will never go back to after beating.

Yeah, that sucked.

I'm not saying this is good for Respawn, getting aquired by EA is no good for anyone working at Respawn. Just for the owners who likely "cashed out" in the transaction.

I'm just saying, the fact that Respawn is working on a Star Wars game should mean we get a quality Star Wars game. I wonder if this is the game that Visceral formerly was tasked with, or if there's 2 separate Star Wars games in development after Battlefront 2. I wouldn't mind that, so long as they aren't both "shooters".

Separate games.

Let's not be cynical. They may release great games like "Lootbox 1: Buy this useless shit," as well as "Lootbox 2: we're not even hiding it now."
