What are we talking about here?

Nioh which is flyo versus Bloodborne combat.

I love the Souls games, but there isn't one thing Nioh's combat mechanics don't do better, and on top of that there is more to it. Bloodborne's advantages are in its level design n quantity of enemies in its roster, and the former I think is debatable as it pertains to gameplay so far. Souls games certainly have more atmosphere and more reason to explore, but the part of the level design loop that is the action, Nioh is hardly playing 2nd fiddle.

The lone blemish is that they made the kurasagami or whatever a cheese weapon, but I mean fucking Demon's Souls has the royal class n Dark Souls had pyros. The way I see it, it's just built in easy mode if you really need to use the kurasagami whatever the **** those are called.

Ohh. yeah, I saw some of that discussion in that thread and checked out. I actually can't conceive of even the biggest Souls/Bloodborne fan actually arguing that the combat there is better than in Nioh, but meh. Takes all kinds.

One thing you'll realize with Nioh, which the Soulsborne games are absolutely not guilty of, is that it sort of begins to wear thin and outstay its welcome by the end (and the lack of enemy variety and blander level design exacerbates the issue).

Soulsborne games are not guilty of...have we played the same fucking franchise? Because the crystal caves, demon ruins, lost izalith, like half of Dark Souls 2 totally made those games overstay their welcome after a point. Dark Souls other sequences are just so good I didn't give a **** and with Dark Souls 2......I mean it was a video game at least. So there's that.

I could see the repetition of the level design n enemy roster being an issue, sure. I know one of the optional bosses in this game is supposed to be the two hardest bosses at once, which makes it basically ornstein n smough but on steroids. And I'm so down for that, plus the raging. The delicious delicious raging.

To be clear, my experience is limited with Dark Souls and Bloodborne, idk if 2 and 3 got shit later.

Dark Souls got shit later. And not even kind of underwhelming due to the absurd quality of design that came before it. Just full stop shit.

Speaking of Street Fighter. Got to play my first online game of Super Street Fighter IV on 360 (played on ONE). And surprise, surprise. I suck.

I'm being honest. I'm not doing the "lag", "online bullshit tactics", etc. I just mean, I suck. Did better only in TTT2 online. lol

Found this useful, short read and free.

Doesn't seem to be anyone playing IV on the PC. V's cossplay (and obviously newer) so it takes seconds, can even set it to auto search for matches while you train, jump from fight, right back to what you were doing. Which is pretty neat.

Except he's dismissed entire key mechanics as adding nothing, while gassing up Bloodborne for doing "x" which Nioh happens to do one better on, while saying shit like "Nioh has no i-frames", when it clearly does lol, again, tied to the stance system.

IF anything I fucked that up. The slow roll is the one with a lot of iframes, the quick evade is the one with very few iframes. Either way, it's incorrect to say they aren't there.

Miyazaki marks finna mark.

But yeah I'd take this dude over system wars poster 47.

@mjorh: Invincibility Frames. Frames of animation were you don't take damage.

Think when Mario gets hit in a game, he flashes for a little. Those are examples of iFrames. In the case of a game like BB, it may be during a roll action where there are a set number of frames during the action where you don't take damage from an attack.

What jump said. Bloodborne's dodge through attacks works the way it does, because really you are taking advantage of a string of frames where you can't be damaged. It's to compensate for the fact that you need to let these characters have these direct attacks and you still want the player directly fighting more aggressively, so you give them a frame where they can't be touched.

Some games forego i-frames, so if you ever felt like "wow my dash/dodge" doesn't work as smooth as other games, well the difference might be in the lack of i-frames or that the game revolves around you moving your hurtbox. For instance I thought the dodge was doofy n not reliable in Hyper Light Drifter like it is in Furi. Well the difference is that Furi is a game of i-frames, HLD, wants you to move your hurt box well in advance. Completely different virtues n principles.

So back to the Nioh comparison. Slow roll, you now have iframes to work with, evade, move your hurt box (Hurt box is the part of your character where when direct hit means you take damage, it can be the character model plus a bit of the space around said model, especially in console games). Shmups/bullet hell games famously have really small hurt boxes that are the dead center of whatever your character model is, so that you have more breathing room to navigate those bullet mazes.

Both to be

-Still fair and demand a high level of execution
-Because psychologically it's intimidating to be surrounded by so many things that will do you harm. Because they are all up in your space.

Hurt box is the space in which you can receive damage. Hit box is the space in which your attack deals damage to an opponent/enemy when colliding with their hurt box.

Disclaimer, didn't have time to watch the full video, but I skipped around and I think this dude demonstrates the concept pretty well.

I really needed the work too, things have been super slow lately. Usually you have to be "Marvel secure" to get in with them, but it seems they're in a crunch, which works for me.

@TheShadowLord07: Going to do 3d scanning and reference photography with the actor on Saturday, then build the animation ready model with full textures based on that data afterwards. Four different wardrobes too, so it's gonna keep me busy for a while.

I'm so ready for it too, it's been a drought for work this year.

Congrats, Conan.

Anyway, TRUnderworld is now XBO compatible. Now I'm still waiting on.

The Simpsons Game (the only BC versions are the Wii and DS versions and being that EA and Fox still have a deal on the license, I'm not sure what's the hold up)

Soul Calibur IV (unlikely with Disney and their really strict rule on Star Wars now, and being that the DLC and the game is off the XBOX and PSN Stores)

Soul Calibur V (Ubisoft should be a little liberal on this though)

John Woo's Stranglehold (unlikely since I don't know if WB has the license and if Woo's company/lawyers would approve)

Mortal Kombat 9: Komplete

Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

Sonic Generations (granted I still don't have this game yet)

Saints Row 2

X-Men Wolverine (unlikely with Fox and Marvel/Disney not coming to deals being based on a Fox-Marvel franchise, that and Activision doesn't have the license to Marvel games anymore)

I watched Dunkirk. I liked it, but didn't love it. Both of Nolan's films I watched made me feel similar (Dunkirk, and Memento.) I enjoyed them, but there was something of substance missing that would push it over the edge for me, and leave a lasting impression. In Dunkirk's case, I keep seeing people's opinions that it didn't give characters enough screen time to bond with them, or make you care about them. I'm not entirely sure that's it though. The amazing feat here was the wonderful set and location. It was actually set in Dunkirk, with real machines, ships, aircrafts, etc from that era. Also no CGI! The sound quality and acting were also top notch.

Probably watch it on the basis of Tom Hardy, he's brillaint in whatever he's in.
Literally the only good thing In The Dark Knight Rises.
