Oh for sure man. The genre hasn't been full blown mainstream since the 90s really. These days there are plenty of avenues for discussion with stuff like RPGs, shooters, and a variety of open world games, but a lot of these other genres are relatively niche.
Genre popularity comes and goes, what can ya do. Also doesn't help that the fighting game community is so snobbish, acting like it's some exclusive club. Very off-putting to newcomers. Oh well.
Honestly though, if I can find a good job somewhere in SoCal, I'll move right away lol. One of the few places where arcade communities still thrive in the states. Chill on the beach by day, hang with other fighting game losers by night? Yes plz.
