Poll E3 is officially back for 2023! (48 votes)

I’ve never been to E3 but would like to! 40%
I’ve never been to E3 and don’t care to! 33%
I’ve been to E3. 4%
I’m too cool for E3. 23%

Thoughts, SW? Do you think E3 can come back to its former glory (aka the 90s haha)?

Took my son who was just a lil tike back then and it was called the CES, held in Chicago. We both had a great time with fond memories. Good to hear it's coming back. ;)

Very nice to hear. I hope it’s back and bigger and grander then ever. Have never been to E3 but would definitely love to go to it.

Sony is not around. This makes E3 irrelevant.

It definitely hurts E3 but I don't know if it makes it irrelevant I guess if you are only a Sony gamer that just plays their exclusives it is. It's just to bad they don't do E3 anymore. TBH The State of Play are all pretty much horrible I miss the days where they would just go on stage and announce game after game instead of the slow drip that is The State of Play.

Yea, Sony used to know how to do shows. 2015 was amazing! Jack Tretton knew how to drop the mic!

I was okay with just watching highlights of info online. Even if E3 was in my area I don’t think I’d bother to go.

Sounds like they want to transform E3 into something like a PAX but with E3 branding. Might work, might not, depends on whether ESA can keep their meddling fingers off and let the PAX folks make changes. I don't have high confidence this partnership will last, but we shall see.

This was discussed weeks ago that E3 is coming back next year. I'll believe it when it really happens as we went down this road since Covid-19 came into everyone's lives.

This is the definition of "I'll believe it when I see it" for me. It's easy to say the words that I want to hear, but actually delivering is a different story. But it would be awesome if they can pull it off.

E3,a week long show premiering new games hated by non gamers who hate on anything and everything, even going as far as sending pics of their dicks to Devs in anger.

For the rest of us who like new and updates on previously announced games then welcome back E3

Can't wait to get back into the annual disappointment showcase again. Life just isn't the same without E3 cringe.

Who will be the laughingstock this time, hmm?

Good. The summer of games showcase thing was garbage and lacked any of the personality that exists at E3.

There is more to E3 than hearing about the latest gaming announcements, so I pray that it returns as a gaming convention where industry professionals meet. Virtual conventions defeat the original purpose of conventions who are in-person events.

ReedPop is doing it so it'll be more fan focused. Pretty sure they do the NYC comicon event too... Probably others as well. Those are a good time. I've been several times.

Naah... Though I would've been over the moon if Gabe hand delivered it to me. Lol.

Most star struck I ever was at the NYC comicon was when Sakaguchi was walking around the FF booth. Dude made FF4, my favorite FF.... He made so many great games.

Nice, what year was that? I remember seeing Nolan North at NYC Comic Con a few years ago and thought that was pretty cool. I didn't ask for his autograph tho lol.

Good news. No, it won't be as exciting as it was in the 90s thanks to the internet and streaming videos, but I still want E3 around.

Nada, we took that trip I think in 1990, could have been 91 but yeah, Phony had yet to enter the VG console biz. In fact my son and I were some of the few who got to try Sonic 1 on the Genesis at that show for the first time ever...Evah. ;o

We were like 1337 baby!! :D

I think that was the only CES to be held in the northwest instead as it always was before and after that show, held on the west coast, normally in LA. :P

I know that E3 is basically a big advertisement show for the games industry and that they love patting themselves in the back, bug gosh darnit, it's still such an exciting event.

It's Christmas for gamers and only once a year, I'm glad it'll return.

It was always super interesting to me following different websites during E3. They always had the issue of having too few journalists to cover everything. They had some going to Zelda, some going to God of War... They really had to spread out to cover all the minor games.

I mean sure a digital only event can replace most stuff... But not everything. Not the joy I got from hearing a journalist speak about what kind of day he had and what games he sad, and then his colleague telling something totally different and unique.

Will I ever go to E3? I remember dying to go for a chance to play battlefield V at EA play 2018. But then a week later I got an alpha invite, so that was a nice turn of events.

What about you?

Since E3 is a trade show that is not open to the public, why should gamers and others who do not work in the gaming industry be concerned over the high ticket prices?

From my perspective, it would mean a lot 9f smaller or indie devs won't be attending and won't get the visibility as the bigger players.

Every E3 (when they were in person, I always looked forward to those smaller games that are always so creative and different.

Sure, big budget games are great, but those smaller indie RPGs have stuck with me more than the AAA ones.

I'd be sad if those games didn't get eyes on them and were cancelled or didn't sell well

You are aware that E3 was in fact open to the general public a few years ago before Covid-19 hit right? When E3 started losing publishers who would pay for booth showtime, they had to open to the public in order to make up for the ticket pricing. That said, ticket pricing increase is a valid concern.

it was around $150 to the general public, back in 2018-2019 I think.

For a long time CES was the UK version of E3, held at Olympia. It was shit. I've been to E3 a few times, always was the main event, CES UK was always something that felt obligatory even though we ('we' being magazine staff) knew was pointless as we had seen it all already at E3.

Funny how times have changed, now E3 is the 'been there, seen it, done it' since literally everything is all over the internet before E3 even starts.
