E3 2021: Devolver Digital, Gearbox and UploadVR

Time for a variety detour. Those cheeky funsters at Devolver Digital are back for another year. Expect the usual digs at gaming industry trends, gory violence, and a game announcement or two. Maybe. If they can be arsed between cocking about.

Also, Gearbox are putting together their own E3 showcase... ...for some reason. I dunno, maybe Randy Pitchford will share some of those "magic tricks" on that flash drive of his. That might make the show instantly worthwhile.

And finally, UploadVR. Congratulations, VR enthusiasts, years of strapping LCD screens to your eyeballs and sellotaping barf bags to your motion controllers have finally earned you your own E3 show. Let's see if they'll announce anything even 15% as socks-blowing as Half-Life: Alyx. Hey, remember how long it took the rest of the game industry to catch up to the previous Half-Life games?

Very mildly interested in what Gearbox might show and Devolver Digital might be slightly amusing but to be honest their over the top conferences feel like they’ve jumped the shark now.

Always interested in what Devolver Digital is up to.

And yea, VR does kind of get the shaft. 80% of the games sites like Gamespot didn't even bother reviewing. Instead, telling us what funny thing happened to Ryan Reynolds while he was eating breakfast is of priority.

Devolver Digital show - the only worthwhile show at E3.

I decided not to do a thread on them because the Guerrilla Games stream is technically day 2 of their showcase so I'm a bit late to the party, while Wholesome Games is a bit of an unknown quantity. Plus, going by the latter's description, I'm pretty sure I'm going respond to everything they show with "how cute" said through clenched teeth, before I spontaneously vomit rainbows.

Wizard with a Gun. Interesting. Looks like a bit of a genre mashup. Could be a fun co-op game.

Barely 5 min in. already better than Ubicock.

Next up. Ooh. Fast and flashy combat.

It's also surprisingly game-heavy. The cocking about is expected. The heavier game focus is not.

I'm personally impressed.

Looks like horror-themed Hands of Fate. Didn't catch the name.

Next. Ah, and there's the gory violence. Devolver Digital Tumble Time, a mobile game. Usually ignore them, but that trailer had me tempted to give it a try.

I'm betting Ubisoft's will be the worst of this E3.

Does gearbox actually have any games besides borderlands?

They publish games like Homeworld and Godfall.

System Shock for sure. But so many others. We'll see.

Now on to that Tiny Tina Borderlands spin-off.

Give us some damn games… don’t care about that stupid movie!

You know, I'm actually somewhat interested in this. Assault on Dragon Keep was the best Borderlands 2 DLC, so this could be good.

More Homeworld 3? They're going to keep teasing this throughout the stream, aren't they? Hope it builds to something.
