This years E3 is no more. And this in a year where we are supposed to see Xbox SeX and PS5 and their launch games.

In more positive news: Bethesda won't have an awful E3 conference this year.

Not too surprised. But as long as we get to see the new games / consoles in an online conference, we should be ok. Still a bit sad though.

Well that’s extremely disappointing but certainly understandable given the circumstances.

Everyone that criticized Sony for pulling out of PAX is looking pretty stupid right now. Everything is being cancelled.

@R4gn4r0k:

So.....NOW should we start worrying about the Corona Virus? They keep telling us to remain calm but I see fellow moms stocking up on water, disinfectant towels and toilet paper and the governor of the state officially declaring a state of emergency.

You should have always been worried about COVID-19. There's a difference between worrying and panicking though, like in your example.

Bad news for Sony. Now how are they going to learn the price of the XSX!

All joking aside i hope they can all come together and have back to back live streams doing that time frame for those of us who enjoy watch E3.

The live streams will be interesting especially learning the price of this x series. Rumours going around that there is more news incoming before the e3 stream.

The big 3 press conferences are not actually part of E3 and are usually held in their own private venues (Xbox's for example is held in Microsoft Theater), so technically, MS could still have their show. Its up to Microsoft to cancel that. The only thing E3 actually has the ability to cancel is the show floor stuff. Time will tell if they choose to do that.

Additionally, they could just do what they did with the reveal of Xbox One, and erect a tent in the middle of their own campus, and fly media out to Redmond.

@pmanden: yeah I hope it gets replaced by online conferences and announcements. I don't really see any advantage of so many people of the press waiting in line to see a game.

Just show the world what you have to show.

The main reason E3 was cancelled was Coronavirus, i doubt MS will hold a presentation in the middle of all this. The risk comes from large groups of people on the same room which i guess is what they are trying to avoid.

I don't think any of the big publishers will run any sort of big presentation any time soon.

Well, that's that, then. E3 was a relic of the 90s and its days were always numbered. Now all the publishers are going to look at all the money and hassle they're saving from taking their shows online and not bother turning up for 2021. All because of a microscopic glob of protein and ribonucleic acid.

RIP E3, 1995-2019. We might still get the "Gamers' Christmas" cluster of online shows in June just for tradition's sake, but the E3 trade show itself is done.

Meanwhile I can go to the Cavs game tonight no problem, even though they are awful. Is the Olympics next? Look on the bright side, atleast we don't have to deal with paid audience members who are prompted when to clap.

Yeah, I feel that there is no need to worry or panick.

I do feel that the measures they are taking are necessary to make the virus spread less rapidly.

The most important thing is to inform yourself about what is going on:

-Don't just eat up everything the media is saying

-and for the love of god: don't go by what other people are saying online. These are the worst guides possible.

Try to inform yourself by reading up what actual doctors and experts are saying. People that work with virusses and that work with longue diseases. That way you can have an informed opinion on the matter, and your mind will feel at ease.

That is really the only advise I can give you.

Yes, E3 might be a relic of the 90s and early 2000s, but like you say: it really felt like christmas for gamers.

Amidst all the boring presentation and companies boasting to their stockholders about how much copies X sold, there was just this overload of game announcements and gameplay trailers to feast on for gamers.

These past years I was watching E3 with a Word document open and I just wrote down every interesting game, because it was just so much info to process.

Good times. I hope it comes back next year!

That sucks, but E3 has been on its last legs for a while. At least we're getting something.

Yup, basically. I went to see my specialist at McMaster in Hamilton today, and they aren't shaking hands at all. It's scary for me, as I do have a severe chronic illness, but people who are healthy just need to take it seriously, but not go overboard. If it starts hitting your area, then stockpile supplies in case of a self-quarantine, but don't panic buy. Shit, I can't even find 99% Isopropyl in my area (NOTL, Canada) and I only use that to clean my weed vape.

This is great news. E3 has sucked the last few years especially with the game “journalists” forcing woke politics on us when we just want to talk about games.

I don’t want anymore game events if it’s just going to feature Californians telling me what an awful person I am in between every game trailer.

I don’t understand why these game journalists want to destroy our hobby so much.

@SOedipus:

It's not just an example, people are literally raiding the grocery stores buying the stuff like they're getting ready for the end of the world. Just yesterday, I had to get 7 packs of water bottles just in case they hike the price on them. Folks here have already lost their shit! It's hard not to panic when you hear talks about quarantining places you used to frequent. Thank God I'm not in Chicago anymore.

I recently learned that the NCAA basketball tournaments for both men and women will take place with only "essential staff and limited family attendence" due to the coronavirus outbreak. Everyone else is excluded.

Will this happen next to NBA games?

It's being mulled over. There are potential fanless NBA games, and LeBron has spoken out against the idea IIRC, as i'm not into basketball (English.)

Heh. I have a spreadsheet. Any game I found interesting, I type them down with my initial estimation of likelihood I would purchase them ("Pre-Order," "Insta-Buy," "Patches," "Sale," etc.). I would then track all of them until I make my final decisions, which means either buying or throwing them in the Pass Bin.

Glad to know I'm not the only weirdo obsessed with writing things down.

It's such an overload of information, and I don't want to miss out on even the smallest indie games, as long as they looked interesting.

Steam wishlist was also very helpful, because I could simply click a button. And then steam would inform me when the game would come out, or when it is on sale later on.

I'm not surprised. I guess all the companies are going to just stream/release a video on what games they have coming. Like what Nintendo does.

Breaking news in my area, 9 confirmed cases in my county (in PA). More concerned over my parents than myself, but it’s official. It’s here.

I wouldn't go that far. It's mostly the mass events that are targeted, as well as people flying in from all over the world for these types of events. All of that is way too risky, for a very contageous disease.

Best case scenario is this virus will die down when the weather gets better in spring, or at least by summer. Same thing happens with other virusses like the flu*. And these consoles will launch by the end of the year, so still plenty of time to hype them up. And build hype at conferences like say Gamescom.

*I'm no expert on this, so please read up on what actual experts are saying if you want to be better informed.

Yeah, the more testing they do, the more venues are going to dissipate with more confirmed cases. I imagine the Olympics are done for this year. You're not going to be able to stop this virus from slowing down if you're allowing it to spread at gatherings. Most, if not all events should take a break until summer.

It is disappointing to hear, especially when its such a big year for gaming with the new generation coming out. I am excited to see how Sony and Microsoft release their big news now that they arent pressured to do it at E3. Hopefully this doesn't mean a delay in launching the new consoles this year.

All I can do is keep my hands clean. If kids or anyone sick comes into the library and sneezes/coughs on me, well, that's it.

Seriously, I don't need to see a bunch of alleged-AAA developers and publishers thinking about how awesome they are while screwing over their consumers with draconian policies and marketing.

Agreed. But then some love the hyperbole and spectacle of these exaggerated events, for some odd reason. I say good riddance.

I'm surprised how little I care.

Actually, I'm not. Such a nothing event. Rather just wait for the game than watch long trailers and demos, which I always now skim through anyway. Got better stuff to do.

Completely understandable. As cool as E3 is there's no way it could go ahead with how things are just now.

They'll do direct type announcements as an alternative no doubt. Also aree with the other posters who've mentioned that this will likely push back the next-gen console releases sometime into 2021.
