I watched the IGN video of Dying Light...then looked at the system requirements...and lol'd. These guys are padding the requirements big time to make up for their incompetence.

I feel the minimum specs are just kind of a pretty generous estimate at this point so they could fill the Steam requirements section with something.

I always just look at the minimum as the recommended never make sense. It's recommended to play games with the most powerful stuff you can throw at it.

And I just bought my rig another 6GB of RAM because it only has 6Gb right now and new games are starting to require 6 and more...

Battlefield 4 reccomends 8 GB of RAM

Advanced Warfare reccommends 6GB of RAM minimum

But 16 GB? what a joke

That's what I just can't get my head around (not that I can really understand the rest of it but still). 16 GB? Seriously?

I don't get the minimum requirements either; will the game not be coming with Low settings or what?

Did you miss the part where you wrote "RECOMMENDED"?

Anyhow, real PC gamers should be happy, nothing but the best for you guys, this is why you're always upgrading, they didn't gimp what this game could have been for weak girly men with their inferior console'esque PCs. It's time you guys got to make a YouTube video or few stating your basic specs and say you're running so-n-so game at "MAX SETTINGS!!"

Isnt this the equivalent of a last gen game recommending an 8800 and core 2 duo?

Yep, just listing "recommended" is by itself stupid when we don't know what settings they are recommending. Ultra? High? 1080p? 60 fps? 30 fps?

A 780 for recommended is not really a ridiculous thing to do... But 16GB of RAM? That's insane.

Exactly.

Like, I know games generally aren't as optimized on Pc, but the console versions debunk the minimum specs and the recommended specs are prolly just if you want to run this game in 2k lol.

We don't know how demanding it is yet. If the ps4 version for example will run at 1080p at 25-30 fps with the equivalent of medium settings, it wouldn't be that far fetched that the game will require a pretty good system (but 16 GB ram seems a bit odd) to run at 1440p ultra settings at stable 60 fps.

Recommended are for "maximum enjoyment"... not "will it run?"

That's the kind of computer someone would want to build at this point to max everything out.

Minimum seem rather high as well though, so probably bad port incoming.

Agreed. I don't really believe it'll need that much (unless it's really unoptimized), or the minimum req., just like Unity.

But, for comparisons sakes regarding your point, DA: I recommends 8GB, gtx 660 and a quad core at 3.0 GHz. With that, acocording to benchmarks, you can max it out at 1080p 30fps.

It's done for the noobs so they don't complain later than they can not run this game at max setting on their Intel HD4000 laptops.

I am pretty sure, recommended setting can be twikked to run on more modest PC as always.

Besides its from those crappy devs who made those Dead Island series. Dying Light seems like Dead Island V 2.0 same ol shit. No slight interest at all. Hoping to see what the requirements for The Witcher 3 gonna be, much superior game than these craps.

is the game only for next-gen? Then it would make sense why specs are much higher than before. PC don't have any low level optimization beside the useless Mantle, and on top of it PC games offer a variety of settings that go beyond console, so it's only logical it would require higher specs for max settings. People expect the PC version of game to look better than consoles not the same.

Stop moaning you lot. You moaned last gen when the consoles were holding back PC, saying you wanted games that pushed your hardware and gave you an excuse to upgrade.

Port was good. gameplay was pure shit =P. Full of random fetching quests or go to point A to B, got repetitive pretty fast lol. Also enemies level up as you, weapons gets broken easily inspite upgrades. So levelling up higher used to be a major pain in the ass Heh.

Skyrim's recommended recs are 4gb ram, quad core cpu and gtx 260. Those specs destroy last gen consoles

the game also ran at ultra low and 720p or under. Are you telling me DL will run on low when it comes to ps4/x1?

Requirements should not require specs that are quite faster then these new consoles for minimums, unless the requirements are justified based on gains and additions in quality. Also to note 7870 does not equal a GTX 670 actually GTX 670= vanilla 7970

lol some still think these console's have "low level" optimization that magically allows better performance or graphics without compromising things.... For example the PS4 does not use the same low level coding as the PS3 used, Even the mighty Naughty Dog dev's have to use the high level based coding because of the nature of the x86 architecture, and then they go back through and optimize as much as they can however they still lose cpu cycles to the API because of their is no bare metal coding anymore. This is why when games are correctly coded on pc you can use gpu hardware that is comparable to these new consoles and provide on par experience.

I assume those are the specs necessary to max it out completely at 1080p/60fps. It's not really that unexpected, as I would assume they'll be adding quite a few Nvidia PhysX style effects, HBAO+, and TXAA. I very much doubt maxed out PC ultra will be what the consoles run--it hasn't been the case with just about ANY game released lately. Not to mention, when does this come out, like late 2015? Shit'll be crazy cheap by then. We're already getting 780 performance at the $300 range. It won't be long until AMD releases their new GPUs, which will cause a price war.

I don't get it. Did people think a 2500K and a GTX 670 was gonna max games until 2025?

Upgrade your stuff or play it on a console at 792p and 30ish fps. But this bitching EVERYTIME a games recommended specs come out is getting a little old.

I think its the fact the requirement specs lately have been overblown, and others namely ubi games run like crap even with the best systems.

@aroxx_ab: I dunno if it's that simple. You need subscription for any online portion of a game, then the constant patches. Recently all the games have been beyond broken on consoles as well. So it isn't that "simple" anymore.

Anyways, those are recommended specs. They could mean 4k res for all that matters. Just look at minimum specs and if you have better than those specs you'll run the game better than the console version.

Careful.

The last games that had overblown requirements where The Evil Wihitin and AC Unity. Both console ports, on both the ps4 and xb1, were in horrible shape.

@GoldenElementXL said:

Max? Hell no. But minimum? Again, it depends on what minimum even is. Console equivilant? low settings 1080p?

But even then, the problem is that, unless consoles are running on low settings, asking for that configuration is fucking stupid.

Sure, requirements will run up has time goes by, and 16GB will be best sooner or latter (it's not even that expensive). But Dying Light looks like a cross gen game (mainly because it was one at first), so asking for such high components for game running on both potato consoles while looking like that is just bad optimization

But like i said above, i don't expect any of this shit to be right and lower rigs will run it, just like TEW and AC U.

You got a point there, wonder what "settings" these requirements is for, is it 1080p or 4k

Never trust system requirements.

They are almost always wrong.

I laughed when I saw that they recommended a system that can easily beat the PS4 for the minimum requirements.

The PS3 and 360 versions must run at 10fps.

And before someone tells me to upgrade, I have 2 GTX 970s and an i7 4770k.

I think most of us are just confused about the 16GB RAM and the minimum reqs. Like many have said, there's no point complaining about the recommended specs because we don't know to what settings they refer.

    • MINIMUM:
  • OS: Windows® 7 64-bit / Windows® 8 64-bit / Windows® 8.1 64-bit
