Dual Sense is a blatant rip-off of the Xbox controller, was the Xbox better all along?

Seems Sony has abandoned the classic Dual Shock look which had persisted for 25 years in favor of something that looks a lot more similar to what the Xbox design has had since the early 2000's.

Switch and Stadia also adopted a very similar design.

It isn't identical mind you but they look more alike than ever before.

Thoughts? Xbox controller, best designed controller ever?

Sony still went with opposable thumbsticks which means they’re still not ergonomical.

I don’t think they look identical at all. It looks like a controller you’d want to use if you were on the moon.

I wouldn’t say it’s a blatant ripoff. But it’s definitely a clone. But that’s a good thing. And honestly, if PlayStation would just offset the damn analog sticks like most people want, they would probably have the best controller. But evidently they really want to be second place across the board this next generation.

25 years of a trash design. Great designers at Sony. DS4 ain't bad, but all the previous DualShock controllers were so bad.

I don’t think they copied it enough. Needs asymmetrical analog stick placement and they need to copy the L/R triggers. That dual coloured controller looks kind of weird as well. Almost like there are three white pieces clipped onto a black controller. Xbox One controller still best controller.

If the thumb sticks were placed like the xbox controller then i would see it as a rip off...but NO it's still the same.

Nothing to be ashamed of, the Xbox controller design is excellent IMO.

It looks like a future version of the DS from PS1 which is before xbox, this thread doesn't really make sense. Controllers have looked that way for a while. I'm pretty sure they ripped of from each other over the years.

I prefer the symmetrical layout of the ds4 (and probably the new ds5) but I also don't mind the Xbox controllers either (minis the D pad) or the Switch Pro, they're all great controllers and it all boils down to which one you use more or which button layout is more comfortable to you.

Where are the ps5 games sony

The PS5 controller seems like a step in the right direction ergonomically compared to the DS4, but I just can't use a controller that doesn't have the offset thumbsticks.

I just hate where the D Pad is on sony controllers Its hardly used always prefer the analogue stick in that position but other than that definitely has the xbox shape to it.

what was copied from the X-1 Controller design? the color? other than the color being similar, everything else still looks similar to the Dualshock 4 controller

yeah the sticks are not positioned as on the xbox, which is pretty much the main difference between the two controllers.

I'm sorry but I see absolutely nothing looks alike from Xbox One controller and the Dualsense is a step-up from DS4.

I guess because it's white? I could see it if the analog sticks where in a different positition, the Dpad was in a different position, and if the Xbox controller had a TouchPad and built in speaker.

Probably also a rip off of some Durex product too.

What's the issue with D-Pad? I never use controllers and suck with them. I only use them when I'm at my friends.

@davillain-: Get better classes. They look very similar and this one is much closer in looks to the Xbox controller than it is to the previous DS controller. Not to mention this general design is so prevalent that it seems people forgot it’s the Xbox that first came up with it.

Got no problem with the controller. Looks fine actually. Simply calling it for what it is.

• Size , shape , positions , and feel of triggers , options/share , home , face buttons , D-pad , sticks
• Face buttons - Triangle , Circle , Square , and Cross/X in the proper position , lol
• Non-colored face buttons
• Touchpad
• Lightbar
• Microphone
• Speaker
• Rechargeable battery
• Adaptive triggers
• Two-tone color design

Some Xbox fanboys are starting to feel the pressure and are getting jealous. It's going to get worse when Sony starts showing games , features , etc. If some people can't handle the blazing fast SSD and beast Dualsense controller now ... then yikes. The road to PS5 is going to be something else. Get your popcorn ready PS fans.

I'm surprised how many people are saying it looks like an xbox controller. I don't see it - looks more like the PS3 prototype to me, if anything - from the buttons, to analog, to triggers, to touchpad... clearly a PS controller IMO.

Is the Dreamcast-ey curve when looking straight on confusing everyone that much?
