As someone that is very creative and very much into tweaking and modding games this game interests me. I'll definitely be picking it up just to make my own games and levels. I'm also interested in seeing what the community comes up with. I enjoyed LBP a lot.

Again the issue is where is the compelling content to get people who just want to consume in. So far I have not seen anything interesting from the devs themselves. The potential is there but seems like its going to need alot of cheering when content makers get in there and create stuff. Maybe it will spawn some interesting kickstarters from retired devs and everyone interested.

I liked LBP, but I admit I probably only messed with the creation aspect for maybe 10 hours - and really only demoed the community levels. Some of them were OK, but don't think any really topped the quality of the main game.

I feel the same way about most of the "creation" games. Just not into it. Feels more like work. I tried to get into the Doom creation, just didn't care after awhile. Again, even the absolute best levels don't compare to the main game. Seems like people just do crazy over the crap stuff that is stupid, or the levels are short and boring and utterly pointless.

Hell, even Minecraft just didn't do it for me, but at least with that people were doing some truly amazing mind boggling stuff (some of the really huge creations). That doesnt' mean I'm going to want to sink 1000 hours into it myself or spend much time playing these "games". At best I'd see something that looked cool, and check it out for about 5 minutes and think to myself "that's cool". Then I'd move back to whatever game I was actually playing. Might as well have just checked them out on Youtube after a certain point.

lol even i didnt hype labo as much as cows trying to hype and defend this turd.

game will be forgotoon a week or 2 after release. it will not even reach 1 million in sales. it might be the end for media molecule. OR expect littlebigplanet 4 after this flops if sony feels like keeping them around.

It's about time consoles half-assedly caught up to what we have been doing on PC since 1998 (and before that, really, cuz Quake and Doom and so on started the whole mod scene) when Valve's Source SDK was released. Making games from our games.

Now, in all serious, non-snarkiness, I do have a few things to say :P

1. Is this an alpha build? Looks very, very, very rough.

2. It's nice to be able to make content, but is any of it actually original? Or people just remaking what they saw in previous games?

3. Seems a bit gimmicky to do this, and I'm sorry but if this is on console it's going to be incredibly limited by the interface.

Just what everyone wants, all their best friends bugging them to play their jank version of every game ever made.

I think this idea is neat and could do a lot of awesome things, but I don't think it will be a revolution.

I just don't get why people won't use a computer and Unity...The idea of only being able to use PS4 controllers sounds like a nightmare.

Everything I have seen from Dreams looks like visual candy and fun surprises, but nothing yet looks like it plays good. It's cool to make something that looks like Dark Souls, but unless it plays like Dark Souls, it's not gonna be fun for more than 2 minutes. This looks like an art suite to me more than an engrossing videogame.

So user generated content is suddenly good now? As I said in another thread:

Wait, did I just see someone saying Dreams is the best game because you can create all the indie games (supposedly) in it? Cool, that means Unity3D and UE4 are not engines but the bestest games ever made because not just indies you can make AAA games with it for free.

Oh and all that is we forget that level editors goes as far back as 1981 with Odyssey and did anyone forgot Minecraft? Or thousands of games with level editors/mods. I mean yup, SOny really did make an innovative game NEVER have been done in the past.

If you want to create things, might as well get involved with Unity, Unreal Engine, etc.. Why waste time with a silly game like Dreams? It is better to use the tools that the big boys use and create your own game that you can sell after. Also, you will be learning skills and gaining experience that can lead to employment in the industry.

It's not a game. Why do people keep calling it that. That's setting up the wrong expectations for it. It's (hopefully) exactly what it is trying to be, which is a VERY high level code-less content creation tool.

Outside of the "Dreams" levels with the imp, which I suspect really serve only a tutorial-like purpose, you use it to make games. It isn't a game. People who like.... Anything other than being creative and trying to make stuff, really, are going to hate this if they buy it thinking it's a game.

You sheep are in for a rude awakening. These game-making-games get boring extremely fast. Your third or fourth game you enter where you thinking you’re playing something bigger than it could possibly be, will just feel like the other three games you entered and exited just as fast.

This is a pass. Dreams does looks interesting but I invested lots of time with Minecraft when it comes to building stuff and like @xantufrog said, this is NOT a game.

@Sushiglutton: That's because the "game" is making games. Most average Joes are not going to make something worth a damn with it. Some will. But the fun is in being creative and making something. It's like Legos in video game form. For some people that ISN'T fun, and that's ok

Oh look, another "game-making game."

How is this revolutionary exactly? There have been game-making games for decades. Essentially you are saying because it let's you create 2/10 versions of famous games, it's somehow going to completely shake up the gaming world?

If I want to play Dark Souls, Zelda or Metal Gear, I'll pickup a copy of that actual game and play that.

Basically all this proves is Dreams will be the game where you get to play mediocre versions of better games. Cows get so hasty; if the PS4 really is the exclusive king here, then why are they just using Dreams to recreate levels from exclusives they don't have?

Are you guys dense? Have you ever played a little big planet game? This isn't just software for making levels. If Little Big Planet is anything to go by, It'll have its own story with levels made by the developers. After finishing the story, there's levels you can make on your own or you can play community levels. They don't just give you a blank canvas.

Why yes, LittleBigPlanet is one of the worst platforming games out there. If you think LBP has substantial platforming mechanics, then you probably have not played many platforming games.

I don't see the point of your comment. The devs have made it pretty clear in their interviews that this is really a content creation platform. It's not a dig at the software - I'm DEFINITELY buying this. But people buying it as a game instead of a creation platform will be disappointed. I guarantee it. A few hours of demo game from them - hundreds and hundreds of hours (limitless really) of content sharing. That's where the fun lies.

Also... why would you '/thread' if you disagree with me but agree with the OP?

@xantufrog: How is it not a game? It has a fully playable campaign and you can spend all of your time playing other people's levels on it without even touching the content creation tools. Just like LBP.

I played with a lot of LBP players online who never made levels but loved all the interesting stuff people created even with the limited creative tools available.

I think we're either getting too deep into semantics or I'm missing something about Dreams.

My understanding is it has a very brief and simple "campaign" that just demonstrates the content creation opportunities.

From there, the "game" is solely what you make or play from others.

IMO, at that point it is no longer a game. It's a platform for you to play community made games; or for you to make games. It's no different from RPGMaker or the like at that point.

Again, maybe we're either getting way too bogged down on semantics of what counts as a "game", or maybe I have dramatically misunderstood how extensive and compelling the campaign is. My understanding was it's not like LBP which is a full platformer adventure - it's a handful of "dream sequences" revealing the content creation tool mechanics and possibilities. Right?

Dreams is kinda like Super Mario Maker to me....interesting concept but don't really know if it's gonna be for me. There's definitely a market for this type of game out there though and I hope it succeeds.

@xantufrog: Is it a brief and simple campaign? Haven't been following it closely but they said it was a narrative taking place across different environments and you can play co-op with friends. I was thinking it would be like LBP which had a lot of levels. Could be that I was mistaken.

It could be semantics, I see gaming as any form of active interaction (varying inputs leading to outputs) with digital media. Dreams falls into that category. RPG maker is marketed as software for making games but you don't need it to play them. Dreams is marketed as a game where you can spend all your time making, all your time playing, or do both. Also functionality like co op would be kind of pointless if it wasn't a game tbh.
