What do you prefer out of these critically aclaimed JRPG series. I Prefer Dragon Quest> FF. because Dragon Quest Has stayed true turn-based formula. I always Found both great games and they still are but i prefer Turn Based > FFXII strange Real time combat. But what do you guys think?

Hmmm, thats a tough one. I like both series alot and JRPGs are my favorite games...

Im gonna go with FF only because grinding dosent take up almost 20 hours of gameplay.

I've only played like 2 Dragon Quest games where as I've played like 8 Final Fantasies, but I loved both of those 2 Dragon Quests while I thought the Final Fantasies were hit and miss, so I'd actually go with Dragon Quest.

dragon quest it's far more hardcore than final fantasy,

the games tend to be longer, the new one has dlc and co-op since nomura took over as char designer final fantasy has turned into gackt inspired mediocrity for weeaboos

Final Fantasy. I've never finished a Dragon Quest game because of how long they usually take to finish.

I prefer Dragon Quest, it's still an old-school jRPG. Final Fantasy isn't the same since Final Fantasy VI...

Hmmm, that's a tougher choice than I expected. I'd have to go with Final Fantasy in this case, but that's because of the sheer quantity I've played. I love the fact though that every Dragon Quest game is essentially "your" story though.

None of nomura heroes are "mediocre." People like to throw this word around with Final Fantasy (which is by no means a "mediocre" series), but look at Dragon Quest? Nomura may go over the top sometimes, but Dragon Quest has to have some of the most bland designs in the JRPG genre. Final Fantasy is by faaaaar more creative than Dragon Quest.

im preferable of dragon quests battle style, but i prefer final fantasys spells, summons, storyline. the newer versions are hard to pit against each other as while i really liked dq8 i thought there was too much grinding and the story was so-so. ff12 was good but i didn't like the license board, the "real time" atb, the art direction or the mmo nature of it. personally i'd take a old school sprite based version of these games over their newer versions any day of the week

(just to clarify, i had fun with both dq8 and ff12, i just think the older games in the series are better)

DQ. Haven't played much of them (only VIII & IV), but DQVIII is above any of the FF I played (VII, VIII, IX, X, XII). Not saying those FF's were bad btw, just that for me, DQ8 had more charm and was more memorable.

Pains me to see DQIX coming out in 3 weeks in Japan while we'll most likely have to wait till next year to play it here. :(

Same here. well DQ it doesn't matter because they could make less grinding in DQ IX but I lost hope in FF with the battle system. ( Even tho XII looks great.

Dragon Quest.

I prefer the Art Style, and the calssic gameplay. I love the Dragon Quest Soundtracks.

I also like the Hero does not have much personality. You also get to name the Hero in ever Dragon Quest game.

Final Fantasy got boring ot me when it moved to the PS2, but thats me.

dragon warrior 1 is in my top 5 games ever. awsome game, i just wish my nes wasn;t a pos so i can play it again,

after 4 dragon quest became a little blah to me, but i did enjoy 8

ff games were always hit and miss, never really got in to the early ones, but started again at 8 loved it, 9 not as good, 10 meh, 11 lol mmorpg, 12 loved the sidequests but still nothing special.

about even, but i would say dragon warrior

I hate dragon quest because they have stayed true to the old formula. I mean they keep the same battle system as the nes. It becomes more about luck and experience than about thinking.

I voted FF over DQ but then again I'm close to playing through all of the proper entries in the FF series, and DQ8 was my only experience with the DragonQuest/Warrior series.... and I loved it. I borrowed it from a friend, played it through, bought my own copy and played it again. I'm certainly looking forward to IX and X coming along as well, I'm just not sure I'd be willing to go back and play the older ones. In fact, I can't say I've ever seen them available at the used games store...

Hmmm, to be honest I havn't played much of either. I'm playing DQ4 at the moment, and that's the only one i've got round to playing. I've only played a couple of FF games, so I can't really say. Though I have liked what I've played of each.

I prefer Dragon Quest. But the only DQ game I've played was DQVIII. DQVIII is great and all, but after a while it gets repetitive. It's still an excellent game however.

You're not the only one I don't find FFX to be a good game. Its mediocre compared to a lot of the other FF titles and as a JRPG. As for me I take the FF series over DQ any day. The DQ series is very bland in terms of characters, story, and game play. On on a side note MegaTen series> Persona> FF>>DQ

Dragon Quest by a long shot!!! I love that they keep true to it's Console RPG turn based roots as it is the franchise that invented this style of RPG. Dragon Quest VIII is the perfection of this kind of gameplay! It has the most balanced leveling up I have ever seen in my life and it has a FULL sized overworld!

I have had a general dislike towards the Final Fantasy series because it came into existance by completely copying what Dragon Quest did two years before it.

Is it just me or are there a lot of threads that belong in general gaming that end up here, anyway I perfer ff because its less level grinding and i've enjoyed the ff stories as a collective whole more then the DQ stories.

Once up on a time I would have said Final Fantasy, but frankly I haven't enjoyed a Final Fantasy game in over a decade. I haven't played FFXII so I can't fairly talk about it, but the FF series has become a walking cliche. It's a variation on the same story, and the same cliched characters over and over. The main character is either some moody emo dork or an overly enthusiastic go-getter dork. There's a demure female who becomes stronger and more assertive as the game goes on. The mysterious loner, the monster that barely talks, etc. It all gets wrapped around in big CG cut screens but at the end of the day they just feel the same.

This isn't to say that DQ isn't also guilty of it to some extent, but DQ designs their games around familiarity. It brings back a lot of the same monsters, music, art style, etc. but because that's exactly what fans want and expect. As a result those same elements are handled with a bit more care and provide a better experience. And the one time they tried to move away from that in DQVII - well it created a pretty bad game.

So in my book DQ trumps FF.
