DOTA 2 Is Dying

The Reborn and Source 2 updates have been less than well received in the Dota 2 community, with the game losing 16% of its playerbase in the past month. Source 2 and Reborn have also been a comedy of errors with an abysmal UI (which has since been fixed) and manybugs.

Valve has in the past salvaged games from dire situations, such as what they did with Counter Strike Global Operatives, but is it possible that DOTA has just peaked?

Just release an update fixing the UI and whatever bugs there are. People come back to MOBAs.

I wouldn't call that dying. Plus it isn't as bad as, say, a subscription based MMO losing that amount.

The game has never had a 16% drop in its entire life, it's pretty dire.

16% of 20 million players playing it is also a lot, that's over 3 million players just gone.

Aris might actually play something else than FUCKING DOTA THEN

I'm sure it will be fine. Or maybe valve will divert some of that Dota money to CSGO majors

The peak and average of overall players this year so far has been more or less the same. I won't deny it's definitely their worst month.

Source 2 minus bugs has been well received, the the mod support is great.

Hopefully people will realize what a garbage dev valve is, but they won't cause they like that valve D.

I will never understand why MOBAs are so popular. I gave DOTA a real shot after hearing Brad Shoemaker talk about it so much over at Giantbomb. They just aren't for me I guess.

For example im hearing 3 years now that WoW is dying , TERA , Diablo 2 , Diablo 3 , Aion , Lineage 2 , and many more games in the past .. Some of them did but most didnt.

In reality what you have to watch for instead of how many players playing monthly on a free 2 play game , watch for how much money DOTA 2 generates for Valve month to month basis or year to year basis. Only then you can tell if something is dying since its all about if players buying stuff from games shop or not.

Assuming Valve giving away massive amount of millions for DOTA 2 proffessional scene , game its still super profitable and i doubt the decline of September will push DOTA 2 to its death. In fact , far from that.

Dota2 had definitely peaked a couple months ago. Biggest prize pool ever, biggest tournament and player base; it really can't get bigger, especially not in the direction Valve is taking it. Dota2 isn't dying, but it's going to start declining like WoW did in WotLK.

But that's fine, I stopped playing Mobas when Valve started to change meta and heroes to accommodate the "pro scene" and internationals instead of making the game enjoyable for everyone below that belt.

To be honest, it is just the bad news around the Reborn update that is killing some away, that is all. There is no "dire" situation. I, personally haven't played Dota 2 much in the past month because of that. Sorry.

I've been playing Heroes of the Storm for my MOBA fix, and having quite some fun with it. I'll come back to Dota 2 in a bit though. Once it becomes more stable.

If by "dying" you mean "still has more gamers than most developers would be willing to kill for", than yes, it's absolutely dying.

Similar to how WoW has been "dying" for years.

First movie games, a majority of weaboo japanese stuff, and sports games....

Makes sense since most PC games are Flash FB games.

Of all the genres out there this is one where I can't stand it simply because of the fans.
