DOOM Eternal broke the franchise record for opening weekend sales with double the launch revenue of the 2016-released DOOM, publisher Bethesda Softworks and developer id Software announced. It was also the best selling game on Steam for its release week, surpassing 100,000 concurrent players on the platform.

I call bullshit. mainly because they had no way of tracking the original games.

Definitely outsold 1 and 2 in its opening, PC games were no where near the spread they are now, not to mention those games did not launch on home consoles as well as PC at launch like eternal has.

Yeah, straight sales most definitely not.

But if just talking about how many copies were out there, pretty sure the shareware version of Doom 1 would crush all other Doom openings combined. That shit was everywhere, even people who didn't play games were playing Doom.

I mean shit, my dad never played games at all and he's the one who got me into Doom lol. He got into it because everyone at his office was playing it. And from what I've heard over the years, that was pretty much the norm.
