By gaining exclusive franchises like Dragon Quest, and Monster Hunter, while already owning Pokemon and Fire Emblem, does Nintendo have a heavy hand in the JRPG market? Could they take the market over?

I know Sony is getting games like Ni No Kuni and hopefully Final Fantasy VS. but is it possible for one company to take over a specific market?

What is the next series you can see Nintendo picking up?

Edit: I guess PC dominates the RTS market although not being a company. Forgot about that.

Then why the F#@ are there only like 3 jrpgs on the damn 3ds which has been out for 2 years now... I really want to know. I just got one yesterday.. and tales of abyss is great, its a remake and so is devil survivor overclocked (which i already own on regular ds), Kingdom hearts... and well thats pretty much it (no the ff rythem game doesn't count. and pokemon isn't my style. ) I own both handhelds and both are still seeing last gen system releases here for jrpgs more than current gen.... Hell PSP and DS are still getting jrpgs but not on current gen... I can somewhat understand psp as vita is still very new, but 3ds it's been out for 2 years , whats the hold up. If there are so many jrpgs in japan why aren't they in north america?

Its also starting to show on their consoles. Xenoblade, the Last Story, Dragon Quest X and Monster Hunter Ultimate. Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter are HUGE in Japan.

They have quite a few of them coming out next year. The one I am most excited for is Bravely Default.

I don't see myself buying a Nintendo console for the express purpose of playing JRPGs, so no.On the other hand, I can see people buying one to play Monster Hunter, but there's a subtle difference between the two.

Well, Xenoblade is probably better than any JRPG on the PS3, Last Story looks better as well. Bravery Default (which hopefully makes it stateside) is one of the JRPGs I'm more interested in.

So, I wouldn't dismiss the possibility, honestly.

If you like japanese games you pretty much have no choice. Deveopers in that region are going to Nintendo since the 3DS is currently dominating that market.

If your console/ handheld has Monster Hunter, Dragon Quest, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, Golden Sun, Mario, Kingdom Hearts, and Mario Kart all locked on as exclusive... You won over japan by default, period

DS and the PSP were no slouches when it came to JRPGS. 3DS is okay. Don't really know much about Vita other what I read on this board (soul sacrifice looks promising though). Wii U and PS4 I have no expectations for

Given what's out on the market JRPG-wise, there's definitely other choices.

Idk about that, the PSP had some fantastic JRPGs. Id say Nintendo and Sony handhelds rival each other very well in the JRPG area.
