Does HDR look washed out in most PS4 games because the PS4 does not have HDMI 2.0?

I know from a previous thread that this is why it can't do Dolby Atmos (and probably DTS:X), while many Xbox games can.

May be! I'm still wondering how can you pass 10bit color without having the hardware for it. Again it's not about just the bandwidth.

Because there are different classifications of HDR.

You need at least 10bit color for true HDR.

I know, but doesn't stop manufacturers listing their stuff as so. They even have VESA classifications, think their labels go as low as HDR 400.

Have you ever seen an HDR review on PS4 where they say it has issues when compared to Xbox?

Nope............. So there's your answer.

Maybe it does 8bit+FRC (some call fake 10 bit) which I've read from some old RTINGS they're indistinguishable to the naked eye and that native gradient/gradation performance of displays are more important. They have this separate in their reviews.

That being said, I wasn't impressed with HDR with mid range tvs mostly thanks to blooming and weird contrast shifts of VA panels (mostly used for high end LCD tvs).

Have yet to try a mid-range oled.

Don't feel like investing in high end tvs. Rather buy a new one in a shorter period that invest big time in one display.

HDMI 1.4 supports 1080p at 10, 12 and 16bit, so hdr is possible at that resolution right?

It's more likely the defects are in the color spectrum analysis on the hardware end I guess but that's just one take most people would probably agree.

Re2 looks washed out most of the time, DMC5 too. Shadow of Tomb Raider looks washed out occasionally. I hate the grey blacks in these games, don't know who thought they look great. Metro Exodus looks awesome in HDR. Same goes for Uncharted 4 + DLC for example. All played on Xbox X except Uncharted of course.

Horizon: ZD is still the best example of HDR.....it truly is breath taking!

No it's simply because they are washed out games.
