Just curious. My backlog of games reaches all the way to the PS1. Year on year it just keeps getting worse. I've hardly even played any of this year's games because I'm always starting games way after everyone else has already long since finished them. If the apocalypse happens and I've got a good generator and plenty of fuel (and I'm not incinerated) I'm set for a loooong time.

Also, just because it's Friday, here's a sleeping cat. Have a happy weekend everyone!

lol Yeah, same. I mean, I still play recent games, but I have soooo many from PS1 and onward that I have started and not finished. Actually, I have Dragon Age Origins and Resident Evil 6 that I haven't even gotten to yet and I've had them for ages. I just keep pushing certain ones back every time I come across something better. I'm STILL working on FFVIII and it was the second game I got on PS1 when I was in the 6th grade (many moons ago).

Nope. I usually only buy games when I plan to play them soon. Otherwise I either wait for big price drops or lose interest and skip certain games completely.

i used to be like that....saying i have a backlog...

now i don't give a ****.... if i never beat a game that i bought then too bad...

imo if the game really really interests me....then i'll play it and beat it before the others. if it stays in your to play pile for a long time then it means ...who cares.

edit: nathandrakeswag said it better.

I skipped RE6. About to start RE7, actually. As for DA:O, that game is amazing. One of my favorites. You should play it right away!

Yeah, I get that. But I'm fundamentally different in that respect. I'll buy a game, but it does not necessarily mean I'll play it right away. I'm kinda weird I suppose in the sense that I only play certain games when the mood strikes me...and for certain games it takes a long time for the mood to strike. I always know what I want to play, though. I usually know the moment I see a game, or even just hear about.

I came very close to buying RE7 because I haven't heard a damn thing about 6. I just bought it because it was on sale for a good price on Black Friday last year. I think I will play Dragon Age, I've been meaning to, just keep getting side tracked.

Yeah, RE6, apparently, is just a straight action game. RE7, so I've heard, is terrifying (especially on the PSVR, which is the way I'll play it).

I became a trophy hunter and it bothers me I started games on the PS3. Someday I'll buy a PS3 and beat Bioshock 3, DmC, Grid, few others.

We know that by you're posts here on SW. Oh wait you meant video games the ones you claim not to love, yeah I can believe you play them everyday.

But to stay on topic, no I have about a dozen games in my collection that I have yet to play, and that's because I've been doing long hours at work, and my kids get the majority of my attention on the weekends.

Better change that title before a mod gets triggered.

As for my backlog, I'm just ignoring it at this point. I don't have the time to play much anymore. I bought Diablo III recently and have just been playing that. And I'm big into Magic: The Gathering now, so that's a non-video game distraction.

Serious question time lets see how you go. How can someone who supposedly plays everyday gain a (not going to say that word) long backlog?

Imagining it, huh. **snickers**

To answer your question (and thank you for actually talking to me), I tend to be pretty neurotic when it comes to games. For instance, I'm playing Here They Lie presently. On average (according to HLTB) it takes people about 3 hours to beat; I've already spent more than twice that amount of time on it, and I don't even know if I'm near the end. I really like to experience the different worlds, visually, story-wise, character-wise, etc. I'm a fairly detail-oriented person. Okay, okay. I'm VERY detail-oriented. I spent like six months playing P4G. I just spent about 60 hours or so on Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The list goes on. Does this answer your question?

@reduc_ab_: I don't. I think it's perfectly acceptable to describe something with great emphasis. I don't get offended by words.

That said, the mods here hate the word and will hand out harsh moderations just for using it, regardless of your intent or meaning.

I have the same problem. Mine also goes back to the PS1 era. It's probably why I never sell my old systems, I still have tons of games on them I haven't beat yet. I've got no worries, I'll eventually beat them someday and if I don't...oh well.

PS: No, I'm not offended by your use of the word retarded. You're using it to place strong emphasis on a situation and you aren't name calling, it's fine.

Had a feeling. I've never seen someone modded for it. Since you say it has happened, though, I'll change it. Not trying to ruffle any feathers here. Thanks for the heads up. :)

Thank you for changing the thread title, @reduc_ab_. Everyone, please avoid using the word on the forums; it is not a point of us moderators being triggered but us wanting to avoid terms people might take extreme personal offense to. If anyone is curious about how mods moderate content, please visit "Ask the Mods" or contact the Community Manager.

As for the topic at hand, about two weeks ago I revamped my backlog list. It was literally anything I owned at first, and then I whittled it down to about 60+ games which would come to, like... 58+ days of gaming. It was eye-opening, really, eye-opening and downright shocking. I looked at the list and dropped 20 games that I'm okay never playing, and I've set a goal to not buy any new games until I finish about... 10. I'm one down as of last night (Snake Pass) and working on Persona 5, Persona 4: Dancing All Night, and The Legend of Korra.

Yeah, but I try not to think of it as a backlog. I want to play games I've already bought before I buy another one, but I fear if I take that mentality I'll find playing games more of a chore than an actual fun activity as they're supposed to be.

Not really, of the games I have bought only The Witcher 3, Bayonetta and Vanquish I haven't played. The other games are free games or random gifts: Assassins Creed III, Overlord, Saint's Row II and IV, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Dungeons 2, Mount & Blade, Phantom Dust, and Thief. Also games I haven't bought but I want to play eventually are only Nier: Automata and Prey and coming soon Dirt 4.

Tolstoy said that happiness is the satisfaction of simple human needs, and that all unhappiness arises not from privation but from superfluity. Why buy games you don't play? Do you not value money? Games aren't cheaper when they are on sale if you never play them. It's even cheaper yet to never buy them in the first place. Buy and play one game at a time. It's sensible.

He was talking about how having too many of life's pleasures lessens the simple joy of fulfilling your needs. This concept can be related to anything and I doubt that the invention of video games has changed anything. You are free to disagree with him of course. I just hope you are finding joy in your hobby and you are not causing yourself grief by having too many games. I worry about you guys and gals and just want to make sure you are happy.

@mark1974: I was referring, or rather loosely implying, that playing video games, or any games for that matter, is not necessarily a recreation for some. It may seem so on the surface, but below is a need to interact with the Void. Now, I do not believe such interactions are always healthy; they may rarely be. But such is the dual edge of imagination--it takes us away if we let it, and so freely do many of us partake of illusion (and delusion).

I fight it every day.

I might be one of the few that has cleaned up most of his backlog...lol. Everything I own on PC I have completed, the rest of the games I own on there are just for online play with friends like Battlegrounds & Rainbow Six: Siege...

On my Pro I'm playing through Horizon at the moment and also playing through Kingdom Hearts 1.5 + 2.5 Remix. I'm usually focused on playing one game at a time, but I just picked up Kingdom Hearts the other day and I couldn't help myself. I absolutely love that series! Playing through the Kingdom Hearts I now. I'll probably beat it then switch over to Horizon and finish that, then go back to following the rest of the games for Kingdom Hearts...

After this? I can either go 2 ways, play through The Last of Us or play Breath of the Wild. I might do The Last of Us, since it's a shorter game than Breath of the Wild and save it for last...lol. Aside from this, there are still a few games I want to get like Ratchet & Clank and Persona 5. I'm holding off until I clear up these few games I have and then I can purchase those two titles...

Year on year it just keeps getting worse.

Yeah it's a problem of just too many great and interesting games coming out, and the fact that I sink a lot of time into multiplayer games.

Plus I want to replay games so there will always be games that I buy that are being pushed aside. Every month at least 2 interesting games release nowadays.

Some games in my backlog include: Dead Space series, Mad Max, Batman series, Legend of Zelda games, Sly cooper games, Jak and Daxter games, Ratchet and Clank games, many PS4 and Xbone games... and yet I keep buying new consoles and games.

So this year I'm really forcing myself to not buy any more games unless they are really, really cheap :P

I have bought a few games already this year, but overall I have skipped a lot too:

I skipped Prey, Steel Division, Shadow Warrior 2, Outlast 2, Little Nightmares...

But I bought Day of Infamy, Rising Storm 2 and Yooka Laylee to name a few :)

Now days my backlog is actually quite reasonable. Sure there's the odd game that I don't quite finish or don't like at all but apart from those I'm completing quite a good proportion these days.

I try to factor in the amount of time and money I'm willing to spend - and the result is I haven't bought many games at all recently.

I've been stockpiling games for the last 11 years. Everything for the NES to the current systems. I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever get around to playing all the games I have. I have about 500 games that I've never played. At the moment I just don't have room to hook everything up. I'm running out of room for games.

Yeah, really huge. To a point, where I won't be bothering with a good 70% of those games.

Not to mention I keep buying games.

I have quite the PS3 backlog... Didn't play a ton of games with PS1/2, then exploded on PS3. Since then i've been able to keep my Wii U backlog managable. I've got 5-10 PS4 on my list to play. I haven't been buying a ton, which i feel like i'm slowly chopping down the list.

A couple things that help me. Beat 2-3 games before buying a new one. Don't buy a new game, unless your going to play it right away.

I buy a game and just milk it till the end. I'd like to think I'm somewhat of a completionist.. so I tend to spend a long time on one game at a time. And I don't like jumping to something new without having finishing what I started, although recently this has happened more times than I'm comfortable with.

I think I'm pretty good atm. Currently I'm playing Wolfenstein: The New Order and after that I'll turn my attention to the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided DLCs, Dark Souls 1 and The Witcher 3. And then I might give the original Deus Ex a try.
