Very likely. Will Sony themselves even survive the generation? Who knows, they only have their nose above the surface of the water, which is the PS4, other then that, they are submerged.

Yep - very sad because the Vita is actually a freaking awesome handheld. Its sad that sony dont support it. It also gets way to much hate from fanbois on the net

I'm shocked they even entered "Nintendo zone" again knowing they're the underdog. Nothing wrong with that tbh, but they wasted the whole fucking thing on ports and indies. Then making it into a Wii U controller rip off. Fucking morons.

I hope so. Handhelds are a waste of time and resources

lolvita

I don't think they want to support another device. They'll probably just keep hocking the vita as a PS4 add on

I have a feeling they'll release at least one more before they call it quits.

As someone else here said, I think they'll release one more to see how it goes. If that fails then it 'll be the last one.

I think it has to be. Sony has to realize that Nintendo has a stranglehold on the market. It honestly doesn't matter what Sony does in this market because regardless they'll always be trumped in both games and sales. This is because of brand name strength of Nintendo for handhelds compared to Sony and due to them having an inferior first party to Nintendo's as well as them lacking the amount of third party support on their handhelds that Nintendo receives. Sony knows this and that's why they don't even mention the Vita anymore at conferences and barely ever announce games for it. With ios, android and tablet gaming becoming more prominent as well it makes no sense for Sony to make another handheld. It's telling how developers view your product when devs would rather release a game like Bioshock on a touch screen device than your platform.

If it's not, it should be.

Of course. The traditional handheld market is dying in general. Nintendo will only have one more cycle left, two if they are insanely lucky. Mobile will completely kill off handhelds within the next 10-15 years.

Nope. The hardware will be too good to pass up. Sony has always been limited by hardware.

@Kaze_no_Mirai: This is probably the most likely case.

No, but I they'll find a way to stream all PS4/5 AAA content to their next handheld so it'll be the home console on the go (they're trying to do this with the Vita now) I don't think we'll see separate handheld only titles on their next handheld platform.

Benefits of this would be:
100% support from all PS first and third party devs
No need to split teams for dedicated devices
Increased install base numbers which equal more sales for devs
Huge library out of the gate

Yep. Vita now is already a glorified PS4 peripheral, I see them going all the way next year and completely phasing out te vita and replacing it with a peripheral with no physical game format.

Yes, unfortunately. Nintendo need something to step on.

Dedicated gaming handheld? Yes. Mobile is too strong a force and consumers demand that their carry-along devices do other things than gaming. If anything, I imagine Sony will try to push an Android phone/tablet line with PSN-integrated features and will do what it can to preserve its current development force, but smaller titles will be the focus.
