smash is fighting game. those never win goty.

pokemon has coop and pokemon has never won goty.

shooters never win so no battlefield or COD

monster hunter didnt get perfect 10s. so not that either.

oh yea, red dead redemption has a shot to take it but needs perfect 10s. i doubt it. although it will outsell god of war.

It's going to be between GOW and RDR2 this year with Spiderman getting a nod.

God of War was alright, certainly not GOTY material for me, too linear and too many puzzles.

I know why he got banned. He spent E3 just blabbering a bunch of stupid bull and then made the comment of Microsoft/Ninja Theory acquisition; calling them traitors for joining Microsoft and that they should be shut down...lol.

I think most outlets will have it between GOW & RDR 2.

I think it will be for game critics and some gamers but RDR2 for me is more of my style. I enjoyed GOW and was impressed by it but not as much as the reviewers where. I actually enjoyed the story of Detroit become human more and felt more for the characters then I did for GOW.

I was hoping a permanent ban...but maybe next time we'll all get that celebration...lol.

A SC fan I see, I only ever played the first game on the Sega Dreamcast and loved it, but sadly neither that nor FH4 will be nominated because there's not enough "feelz" for gaming journalist these days.

It might win by default - we haven't had any new 10/10 big hitters this year, unlike the last few years. Bayonetta 2 sounds like the better action game, review-wise, but that might be disqualified for being a pre-release.

Still, if anything gets a 10 over the next six months, I don't see God of War getting GOTY.

But FH4 will be more fun than DoW & RDR2 combined, pity fun seems to get lost when GOTY awards get handed out.

All that matters to me is that I sure will not be my game of the year. I found the game to be very boring. It is a very high quality game do not get me wrong, but I really am not all that into hyper linear games anymore. Ever since I got into creative games, and open world games, I just cannot get into this type of game.

Its safe to say everyone will have forgotten GoW come christmas.

Its one of those game that are fun to play. Once. After that you just trade it in, and forget about it.

Youve all seen it here; when folk are still playing GoW they keep raving about it here, but once they've completed the game, they just forget about it and move on.

So, not GOTY material. GOTY is a game that you will remember years from now. Detroit, for example.

LOL You're nuts if you think RDR2 is going to beat GoW here at Gamespot. GTA5 couldn't beat a 3DS Zelda in 2013. And GTA4 didn't win here either.

@cainetao11: It's possible. I mean, RDR scored 9.5 and beat SMG2 (10.0), Starcraft II (9.5) and Mass Effect 2 (9.0) for GotY to name a few.

At this point I can’t say it won’t. RDR2 and Spider-Man still stand out in my mind as potential challengers. MHW might get some token acknowledgements, but GoW is far ahead of everything else at the moment (in spite of it not being quite as good as other PS4 exclusives).

I don't care, the only GOTY award I care about is my own.

I think that more outlets will call Monster Hunter World goty than God of War.

Why even bother mentioning Pokemon? Since when that kind of garbage wins GOTY awards?

Picked GoW up shortly after launch and still haven’t finished it. Seems a bit too puzzle heavy for my taste so it won’t be my game of the year. That said, it will certainly be in contention for the award and deservedly so. Pacing issues aside it’s a good game.

God of War came out too early in the year. Most GOTY awards go to games that hit in Sept-Nov.

Everyone loved RDR when it first came out, the second one will steal all of GOW's thunder. It'll be hailed as the "game of the decade".
