Hello friends,

I beat Doom like 4th time and now i focus on story this time more. and im surprised to say the story is really good. and wayy too underrated. sure game is not focus on story but how its story told is actually really well done. it has no cutscene but still told better story than games with 3 hour cutscenes. where entire budget wasted instead on quality gameplay.

Doom Slayer is probably best character debut this generation. and by far best Doom protagonist ever. he may never speak the single words but theres more depth in his character than say new BJ blazcowicz. Demons are so scared of him a one single guy that he was locked up for years until he was free.

Then theres ending that ended on cliffhanger, and after its ending i really cannot wait to see what will happen to Doom slayer, How will sequel start? from Where? Best cliffhanger ending i have seen since Half life 2.

I also really like what they did with samuel hyden

He was great supporting character and really well written too. until the end i really cant wait to find what will happen in Doom 2.

I also really liked the lore of this game. from a game that people claim no story did better story than games heavily focus on story.

Story driven FPS are my fav games ever and this game is not story driven yet tell a pretty good story.

So my friends? do you think it has good story? well i may not think its story is Mafia 1, Max payne or Deus Ex but still a pretty good story for old school FPS.

I mean look at wolfenstein games. they have rely heavily on story. so heavily that they have hours of cutscenes but tell extremely boring story with no memorable characters.

Doom on other hand doesnot have cutscenes but told very interesting story if you pay attention. i didnot on my first playthrough except very end. i i did in my recent and story really impress me.

No.

DOOM 4's story was awful and didn't added anything to the game.(Doom guy wakes up,kills demons, the end)

It had awful villains too.(Olivia)

At least Doom 3 had a much better story compare to Doom 4 and a much better villain.(betruger)

edit: Doomguy was also less sadistic in Doom 3.

What do you mean Doom 2016 doesn't have cutscenes? The game has cutscenes with most showing the actions of that SJW. What's okay about them is they are short and they don't interrupt the player in the middle of the action.

From my screenshot folder. Just like regular cutscenes, the HUD disappears and the player is relegated to spectating (and twiddling thumbs) until the cutscene is over.

But, ya. I'm prolific with screenshots with every almost every game I play, even the cutscenes and ending credits. ;)

It was pretty boring, but fairly standard as far as FPS games go. Not good, not bad, but it's rare for stories in FPS games to be any good. The Metro and Half Life games were probably the best I've experienced, but the Metro games were based off of books, so they kinda cheated.

The story is basic and unappealing but the narrative is really well delivered.

I groaned every time I saw that SJW because I knew the gameplay action will be delayed a bit while I watch what she did.

I wish more games pieced together their stories in the same style as Bioshock: through audio while my gameplay went on uninterrupted.

Or, through the comics-style art of Hard Reset while the game is loading.

I don't have to pay attention in other games as their story is obvious........ So DOOM fails compared to others.

DOOM 2016 story was okay, nothing more/less. As the game went on, I knew to not trust Dr. Hayden and from the offset, I already knew the guy had his own agenda.

That's because the frame rate is so low the version feels like you are literally looking at the story board for the game.

I was surprised that it had as much story as it did, after all the talk that the game basically said F-U to having a story.

That said, it was all right. I mostly ignored it, but those big epic doom slayer monologues were cool if a little long-winded.

The story was ok, I wouldn’t call it great or anything but it did it’s job. Personally I don’t mind games telling there stories with cutscenes at all and I really appreciate them more when those cutscenes are done with gorgeous CGI videos. I thought Metal Gear Solid V had a great story, I loved it.

Oh, okay.

From the reviews I've seen, it has an original premise, certainly a hell of a lot more than Doom 2016. ;)

@jun_aka_pekto: Yeah it's kind of like 6-former (or first year of the one after secondary education) to Doom 6's 5th year (or first year of secondary education whatever that's called in your country).

Also it has fighting sections. Nice. Oh and David Bowie making mad tunes, doing sexy thong wearing pole dancing and posing on the cover in a headdress.

What's not to like?

I loved the setting and the atmosphere, the main characters were cool, but there was nothing memorable about the story overall to be honest. Prey, for instance, had a much better story, that was a memorable one for me.

DOOM is an action game for me, if the next one has a great story as well I would love that. Maybe Ill change my mind on the 2nd playyhrough when the game gets X-enhanced

Doom's story was great because it was minimal, like games used to be, so basic the stories are summed up on the back of the cardboard boxes they come in, the rest is up to the imagination of the player. It just gets you straight into the action that never lets up.

The game did leave me wanting more story, just a bit more, maybe could have done that through SP expansions, their failure there was committing to season passes for the online MP, which was a mistake since the gaming mob shat on Doom for not being Quake and everyone remembered a robust online Doom that never really existed. But yeah, next time, hope they just do SP season pass / DLC.

Just say you're comparing freshman college to jr. high. A much simpler way of putting it even though it's a weird way to compare story creation on both games.;)

Doom 2016's story is rudimentary. But, in its defense, the emphasis is in almost non-stop action and the majority of players would probably like it that way. Unlike say, STALKER: Call of Pripyat or Fallout 4, there's minimal interaction between the player and NPCs (besides killing) in Doom 2016. So, its story can be set aside.

I would tear out my hair if I see this much dialogue in Doom 2016. It doesn't fit in with the game.

About as much depth as a rain puddle, but it does maintain itself and certainly reflects effort and thought by the development team. While it’s not gonna get Nobel-esque recognition, it does an effective job of creating and sustaining a contextual purpose that compliments its mechanical efficacy.

The story did well enough to progress the game further down the shooter path of needing a reason to kill things. I enjoyed the voice acting, and the game's actual gameplay mechanics, so it served its purpose well enough.

I don't know. I barely paid attention to the story. I would have preferred less story so that I wouldn't have had to watch all those unskippable boring-ass mini-cutscenes.
