Poll Do you think Cyberpunk 2077 will live up to Deus Ex 1 after 20 years? (48 votes)

It will be better 63%
It will be worse 17%
It will be just as good 21%

Hello friends

20 years ago, in the year 2000, Warren spector released Deus Ex and that is still to date a best game ever made. now in the year 2020, exact 20 years later, CDPR releasing Cyberpunk 2077 which is very similar to Deus Ex in a sence both are sci fi, futuristic, cyberpunk theme, FPS/RPG. having same kind of augmentation and corporation stuff.

part of me think it may turn out as good. but its actually very difficult for CDPR to pull of immersive sim nature and conspiracy driven story of Deus Ex. but then i see how ambitious cyberpunk is, how big and dense the world is, how amazing universe is where i can say they have nailed it. and the character of Keannu reeves who is AI is also similar to AI in Deus Ex too. in that way, it looks like natural Evolution of what 20 years ago Deus Ex was and no developers had did it before. in 20 years (except Deus Ex HR).

So my friends, do you believe it will live up to original Deus Ex? lets discuss.

Nah. I wouldn't expect it to be nearly as good, so don't get overhyped.

Just setting yourself up for a big letdown.

CDP games largely have shit gameplay.

It's mainly the writing and their Kojima like confidence at trying to make something that typically attracts basement dwelling DnD player "cool" like how GOT uses soft-porn to get normies into watching Lord Of The Rings crap.

Their are plenty of medieval-style games with solid combat and controls.

The most immediate one coming to mind Mount And Blade, which was literally made by two people on a shoe-string budget.

Don’t know how it’ll compare to Deus Ex as I never played that game but from what I’ve seen on Cyberpunk 2077 and my experience from The Witcher 3 I’m expecting another excellent game by CDPR that I’ll thoroughly enjoy.

@uninspiredcup: Never played M&B but about 90% of RPG’s do have a bad to mediocre combat system. Shouldn’t be the case but why bother developing mechanics based on skill and reflexes when stats trump everything?

and thats why 90% of RPGs are bad in general.

I just beat outer worlds and even though its better than any RPG. its still a mixed bag. combat become bad after enemies become too bulletspongy making it less fun.

@uninspiredcup: I'm playing The Witcher 3 again for the first time since it launched. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty setting, and...the combat is good. Really good. The controls and camera are responsive, there's a good variety of moves and abilites, the enemy variety is great, and there's something really satisfying about timing your attacks to take down an enemy that can kill you in 2-3 hits.

I've never understood the arguments that The Witcher 3 has shit gameplay. It has good gameplay compared to action games, and fantastic gameplay compared to the vast majority of RPGs (outside of edge cases like Mount and Blade and Dark Souls, of course).

Deus ex had a really intense story and setting for its time. There was no game like it also. I miss those days so much.

Played Deus Ex for like 20 min before laughingly turning that hot garbage off, never to return. Pretty sure CP2077 will be better than that....

I think this might be the one.

I'll hope it at least matches it in terms of richness in vibes, exploration, (methods of) progression. It's a hope, not an expectation.

Human Revolution was really great but Mankind Divided was a huge step-back, I expected and not as good as Human Revolution, I expected so much more. Like similar to what Sushiglutton said, I spend an hour of Mankind Divided and I couldn't bring myself to finish the game. It's very rare for me to not complete a game but Mankind Divided was pushing my patients.

At least I know for a fact Cyberpunk 2077 will be a different breed and I'm going full hype mode because I know who the developers are.

although its sequel was dumbed down for xbox then it was redeemded with HR and then MD ruined it once again.

Ok I admit 20 min wasn’t enough to judge most aspects of the game. It’s just that it both looked and felt sooo old.

I did play and finish Human Revolution, which I thought was pretty cool. That’s why I gave the original a go, but it was a no-go for me.

I do have one problem with these immersive sims in general. The concept is that you can play them any way you want. But if you play them as an action game they tend to really suck compared to proper action games (like say Doom2016). So in practice I always end up playing them as stealth games. But then it feels like a big chunk of the game is a waste.

If they had tried to make Human Revolution the best stealth game they could I think it would have made it an overall better game. Therefor I think the concept of immersive sim is just flawed.

Aspects of Deus Ex are incredibly dated now, such as the level design (Hong Kong) and combat, so there's a chance that this will be more sophisticated.

Don't know. CDPR have never attempted this kind of game before, so it's a pretty big unknown at this point. I just hope they don't crumble under the pressure.

If I had to chose a developer to make a spiritual successor to Deus Ex 1 I'd probably go with Arcane based off their work on Prey 2017. That game deserved more attention than it got, and it's a shame it didn't sell better.

I'm trying to avoid that comparison in my head. The setting is enough for me to check it out unless it turns out to be really broken at launch. I'm going to avoid looking at anything - or even thinking about it until then.

@Planeforger: I’m convinced that the internet says something enough times and most people being mindless lemmings just all start nodding in agreement after being worn down.

The Dark Knight Rises was a perfect example of that. Everyone loved it when it came out, great reviews by both viewers and critics alike. Ask people about it it today and it’s some crap movie and a huge letdown because...reasons.

@Planeforger: TW3 had excellent combat. I agree. I've played RPGs all my life and it's a standout in that regard. My only real issues with it are the limited stats system and pointless dialog list design. It's not a great "rpg" in those regards. But I'd argue its combat is ABOVE average, at least for the genre.

Why do people say the combat in The Witcher 3 is bad? It's not particularly great or complex, but it's fun and has responsive controls, and there's a certain strategy to it.

Truth be told, it is better than most action-RPG's of that vein.

I think part of the problem is people's standards are set to Japanese action game standards where you get all these crazy combos and big numbers on the screen and then they tell you how well the fight went with a score.

I also don't understand why anyone would say that The Witcher 3 had terrible combat and a bland protagonist...and then go on to praise Deus Ex, which had much clunkier combat and one of the most monotonous non-silent protanogists in the genre.

you dont engage in combat most of time in Deus Ex. you can beat the game without even killing a one enemy.

you explore the level design and be stealthy in Deus Ex most of time. plus JC denton is still one of the gaming best protagonist.

Truthfully? No, I don't think Cyberpunk will be better than Deus Ex original.

The original Deus Ex is quite literally the best game ever made [in my opinion, obviously]

With that said, I certainly hope Cyberpunk is better. There is no shame in games getting better; the king is dead, long live the king, is pretty much how I would treat it.

Indeed.

Deus Ex was a first-person RPG with action elements...it was not an action-RPG as we are accustomed to these days.

It's about character building, dialogue options, story, atmosphere...all the things we see rushing by us in modern action games and RPG's are there in stark detail in Deus Ex.

I still find new things in Deus Ex after 20 years, and I play it probably two or three times per year.

Not hyped at all to Cyberpunk 2077,I find it to close to the release dates of the next gen consoles. Looking more forward to Halo Infinite.
