to own the system with the graphics king? The correct term is console graphics king but some of the more outrageous posters here claimed it was the graphics king period even if it was on the PS3 or 360.

I'm not specifying which game was the best and which console was more powerful. I'm just making the point that just a few short years ago everyone was blown away and their jaws were on the ground because of the graphics of the PS3 and 360. It was even universally agreed that this gen is weak sauce because it's not much of a jump over the 360/PS3 era.

Well folks I'm confused because the Switch has vastly superior graphics than both systems and now some are complaining about how garbage it is visually. It may not be state of the art and the best thing out there with 4K graphics but the visuals are excellent.

Can someone help me out, what gives?

The Switch is graphically a full generation behind the PS4 Pro and the Xbox Scorpio, two systems releasing in the same timeframe. its games look fine for what they are, but are not keeping up with the competition, so people are calling it out on that.

No. Only non-gamers bought/continue to buy systems based on graphics as a factor.

I started gaming when all we had were to long rectangles and a square ball. In game graphics continually improve and will continue to do so until a point is reached that they are indistinguishable from reality and there is still a way to go before that is attained.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 did not start the improvements, no console ever has, that's entirely the realm of PC's, console just play catch up.

The Switch is trying to do something the other two are not, a hybrid portable home console. They're trying to do this with acceptable graphics for the home console and state of the art graphics for a portable.

My point is, the people who are criticizing the switch for graphics are being unfair. Because the graphics are good enough for what it is and console gamers aren't in a position to criticize graphics in the first place. Even when the PS4 launched it was pathetic by comparison to a top of the line PC. That's ok but what are console gamers complaining about?

Ps4 and X1 are pretty significant leap over Ps3/360. Horizon Zero Dawn shits all over any last gen game that I've played. The Switch titles are no where close to Ps4 graphically and that's not including Ps4 Pro.

How exactly do you define generations? Let's take aside, that it is the strongest handheld we have seen: Even as a console it looks much better than Ps3/x360 looked at their launch.

And again, if we define generations by raw power, the Pc is like 2 or 3 gens in the future. You can SLI 4 GTX 980 TIs together

Current gen console graphics are far ahead anything on PS3/360. Add the fact 20fps is not acceptable anymore (60fps consoles games are actually common now), most games run at native 1080p, screen tearing is almost non existant, there is no more pop in in front of my eyes, etc, etc...

Anyone who says that PS4 and X1 are not one generation ahead PS3 and 360, clearly forgot how lastgeneration games used to look and perform!

Member when Hermits swore to god that Crysis was so advanced that PS4 couldn't run it and then they ported it over to PS3 and Crytek themselves said the PS3 version looked better? Lol I member.

For CryEngine 3, Crytek added deferred rendering for lighting solution but textures quality and game world size has been reduced for PS3/Xbox360.

The Switch still does not beat the their best looking games. That makes it 3 (three) systems in a row that have failed to beat a 2005 console (X360). Nothing on Switch looks as good as the prettiest Gears, Uncharted, Crysis games. And I don't expect anything ever will.

I found the switch.. more specifically Zelda BTOW.. surprisingly impressive for a cartridge based format. Having said that.. the X360/PS3 sh*ts on this thing and they came out over a decade ago. Not sure if you're a nintendo sheep but Got damn.. you REALLY need to take a look at the previous gen's offerings.

Graphics are supplementary, its not the end of the world.
