Poll Do you prefer Zelda BOTW or the Witcher 3 (109 votes)

Zelda BOTW 57%
Witcher 3 43%

I recently got a Switch Lite and I've been playing on Zelda BOTW. Both very impressive and similar in many ways. Just curious which do you prefer?

Breath of the Wild by a lot, Witcher 3 was honestly pretty linear all things considered.

Neither of them are all that great in my opinion, but I gave the edge to The Witcher 3 since BotW is so repetitive.

A year ago, TW3 was winning a similar poll on SW. But now, BOTW is leading this poll. Did something change at SW?

Makes sense. I suppose most folks had not played BOTW back then.

@Jag85: I'm just speculating of course, but it does seem like there was a big uptick in ownership in the boards here recently based on posts I've noticed.

Witcher 3, the frigging side quests alone were the best **** I've played in years, of course it also has better combat than BotW. BotW wasn't a bad game though, played it through two times in a row, that's how good it was.

Most certainly doesn't have better combat than BOTW when the whole shit revolves around Quen+Hit+Backstep

Not even remotely and for someone who has supposedly beaten the game two times you sure as hell could have come up with something better.

@Juub1990: Same base combat. Besides you can block in Witcher and you do have other signs as well. Zelda has better combat than Horizon though.

Both are amazing, but BotW is such a well designed game.

About the combat in Witcher 3. I've played the game in death march and enjoyed combat in general. IMO most complains come from dumb gamers who struggle to enjoy anything that doesn't follow a known formula. Surely there's stuff to be improved but I I like how it feels like a dance, and how that is connected with the source material.

Well finally someone else who enjoys TW3 combat. Gimme five!

Not sure I'd put Horizon combat over The Witcher 3. For starters it's more of a TPS, because if we're talking all the melee shit, Horizon is one dial combo. Idk, like to me it reads like saying The Last of Us has better combat than The Witcher 3, which it does, but that comparison is just weird in terms of the style of core systems it chose.

I also think quen, hit, leave is maybe missing the point on why it's wack. Deep games have cheesy strats. You can totally be a god in Nioh and just use that kunai with chain shit and wreck face, but that wouldn't stop the game from having depth, it's why I never cared for cup's usual RE4 dunking routine of look at this knife shit you can abuse. Yes, sure, but I don't think it invalidates being able to do all sorts of other funky shit.

The WItcher 3 has the basics down, it's just details that are wack. They tied i-frames to a fucking stat (stupid), you don't know which attack animation you will get when you light swing/heavy swing: sometimes the animation start up is fast, other times he wants to do a longer one. Which impacts whif punishes, and how long of a punish string you can get off. Which is a pretty big deal because the tru loop is duck n weave around the enemy for backstab bonuses.

Beyond that the powers have no real synergy with each other, they are one dimensional shit that do their thing, but pairing them is a pain in the ass. Also even tho its sort of a bar, it's still basically cool downs before you can start doing spells. So you're limited with the type of pairings you have. usually trap+one of your offensive tools or quen.

It's lacks for any sort of technical play, and while the lack of complexity isn't a deal breaker: Dark Souls isn't a complicated game, it isn't reliable like Dark Souls is. Doesn't help its cause that because its got the RPG numbers game going on, even on Death March the game becomes a joke once you make it to Novigrad stuff until the bosses when you are a mage build because you put zero points in any of your slashes like a true legend.

I've spent over 200 hours on BOTW with multiple Playthroughs.

I've bought Witcher 3 on PS4 when it was on sale, but still haven't played it.
