Do you Prefer your FPS as SP, Coop or MP?

it depends I prefer halo campaign due to the story but cod multiplayer. Co-ops gone for me since splitscreen has died

Single player.

SP, running around with random goobers or have some someone shout at you down a mic ain't fun.

My favorite overall is Competitive multiplayer, I used to play Battlefield a lot. But I also very much enjoy the campaigns and PVE modes, I enjoy all 3 a lot depending on the game for example Metro Exodus it's a very atmospheric survival game and I am only interested in the campaign for this one. Same thing for BioShock, couldn't care less about any multiplayer for that game. Other games like Halo 5 I liked the campaign but I mostly enjoy it due to its multiplayer features, especially Team Slayer.

not to mention most of great SP games have excellent story too

Metro story is one of the best ever. even better than most RPG.

Probably the best story in literature, Read Lord Of The Rings, couldn't go 5 pages without elves singing.

As much as I LOVE the toxic community in Overwatch, I prefer single player. And I can't think of a shooter more fun than Bulletstorm.

When the FPS genre was still new and novel such as with Doom, I loved the LAN MP. That went on through Quake, Quake 2, and Duke Nukem 3D. After that, I started to get burnout. When I next resumed FPS games, I loved the LAN MP-focused FPS games such as Battlefield 1942 and Battlefield 2. But, as online MP displaced LANs, I quit.

Nowdays, I don't give a crap about MP and I wish developers keep it out of SP-focused games.

LAN is only good thing about online gaming. I was addicted to CS 1.6 via lan. my all neighbors used to play it.

playing with random people is like playing with bots with improved AI. no fun.

I generally don't buy FPS games anymore.

Destiny was the first since 2009 I had bought. I picked up Destiny 2 as well; both to coop with my brother. I doubt I'll buy another.

Single Player.

Level design is very important. I am LOVING TitanFall 2 right now. It’s really cool.

Long term Resident Evil fan; even enjoyed RE6. I haven't and will not bother buying RE7 because it's first person. So yeah, Metro isn't happening either.

RE7 is by far best in series. its not FPS. but a first person horror game

its much better than RE4, 5 and 6. RE6 was action QTE fest.

first person is better and more immersive camera. third person make game too easy as you can see enemy behind.

I prefer MP FPS with bots. Like with COD.

MP seams to be a lot of fun, but the matchmaking and make me play with I don't know who is bs. Rather play the bots; same fun anyway.

All of the above, with multiplayer being the most important. I usually jump on MP long before I check out the campaign. Exception is Titanfall 2, I got right into the campaign first. I like playing against other humans, I don't care if I know them or not. Real human opponents are unpredictable and that's what keeps the matches interesting. Its a weird kind of social engagement, too.

I like Singleplayer FPS:

- Half Life, Metro, Wolfenstein, DOOM, Call of Juarez Gunslinger

I like online FPS:

- Battlefield, Day of Infamy, Rising Storm, Red Orchestra.

and I like co-op FPS:

- Killing Floor 2, Borderlands 2

SP for me all the way.

I prefer SP in EVERY game genre no matter which one.

I definitely feel EA needs to try to make some PvE modes for Battlefield and Battlefront games.

it may be people are bored of online MP games. imo they are all same. like COD is small scale military shooter while battlefield is COD with vehicles and large scale. not much difference. and they are 2 most popular MP games.

Yeah, I play fewer than I used to. The perspective is inferior and sillier. Though, I would still say first person shooters have more good games, just because almost everyone does third person wrong, with too much sticky cover, auto-crouching, health regen and over the shoulder aiming. DOOM is without a doubt my favorite shooter of its generation and that's because of how flat out fun its single player campaign is. So I'm gonna say single player. Unfortunately, most shooters these days have mediocre SP at best.

Most single player FPS games are either crap, or incredibly repetitive, so I'd have to go MP, with co-op coming in second.

I love me some good SP FPS games, but they are just so rare, it's hard to bank on them.

Then again, I guess good MP FPS games are pretty rare, too. Lol, Explains why I'm still playing BF1 and PUBG mainly for MP games.

my friend, history show SP FPS always trump MP in every way.

in late 90s we had System shock, Half life that own every MP FPS that day. in early 00s we had FEAR, STALKER, Deus Ex, Crysis, Doom 3, Deus Ex Riddick, Half life 2 that own every MP FPS those days.

in this decade we have DOOM, PREY, Metro, Deus Ex HR , COJ gunslinger, Hard reset, Shadow warrior 2013 etc that own every MP game of today. hack Titanfall 2 SP is so much better than its MP.

DOOM is by far best game of this generation. nothing come close to it.

I tried battlefield 3 and play it for few hours. i was bored. so damn bored. i tried CSGO and its community is pretty bad. no fun

only MP game i used to enjoy was team fortress 2 and even now its no longer fun at all.

I am interested in all of them because this is a video game genre centered around gun and other weapon-based combat in a first-person perspective; that is, the player experiences the action through the eyes of the protagonist. MP games should not be a full price game either free or charge 15 bucks.

for example rainbow six siege looks cool to me. i was about to buy it but it just looks too expensive. if it has SP that it would worth a money.

DICE put SP in battlefield to justify 60 bucks.

I was thinking I'm surprised it took so long for people to start getting tired of that stuff, but I guess the real lack of good modern sp FPS games in recent years heavily contributed to that.

during last gen. i couldnot tell a difference between COD, battlefield or MOH. they all look and play exact same. and are all 60 dollar price.

i cant play MP games more than 1 hour. boring with bunch of idiots shouting and swearing on mic.

When a game like Fortnite is the biggest game on the planet right now I think it’s pretty safe to say that MP are by far more popular than SP games.

Well, it was SP. Probably still is. The FPS genre overall kind of sucks nowadays.

I like all types, though. I wish there were some more co op ones. At least Vermintide 2 turned out fun.

@Litchie: have disagree about the FPS genre sucking at the moment. In my opinion no matter what type of FPS you prefer you are well catered for whether it’s story driven or MP. It’s great.

It's just for me personally. FPS series I loved in the past has become progressively worse for me, and new ones that come are similar to that quality. I understand "dumbing down" your games so that more people can enjoy it, but that makes the games worse for me who don't want everything to be simple all the time.

I don't have a Battlefield anymore that's as fun as BF2 or 2142, I don't have a new game equal to Team Fortress 2. Closest is Overwatch I guess, and that's about 10% of the fun TF2 is. There's still no L4D-like game better than L4D. There's still no SP FPS released later and is better than HL2, and so on.

STALKER was easily better than Half life 2. both Stalker Soc and Cop. DOOM play better than Half life 2 today, Metro series is just as good and i have a feeling that Metro Exodus will own Half life 2. I recently replayed HL2. it is still one of my fav game but its just show its age. its also very easy.

@boycie: somehow he is right. FPS games become so bad during last gen. that every game 10 years ago was COD clone.

its just a hard process to finally recover from terrible last gen MMS horde. I hope success of DOOM lead to developers now making more of old school FPS games.

No, single player games fall behind in enemy intelligence. AI doesn't think. AI isn't spontaneous or creative. You always have the same scripted reactions and, usually, enemies who barely move from their positions. I'll always be more a single player guy, but I've had badass moments in multiplayer that the limitations of single player can't match. There's also a sense of satisfaction in beating someone who isn't handicapped by single player balancing.
