Do you feel like this gen was lacking in new IPs?

There is alot of awesome remakes this generation which is great but only a handful of new IPs do you think this gen relied to much on remakes and remasters? instead of taking risks on new titles?

I think there were many new IPs in the indie space, but less so in the AAA space. Still, i'm on the fence on whether a gen needs numerous new IPs, as there is no guarantee they will be good. Still, constant remasters do get old.

I agree with OP, we lack new ips but im happy with reboots and remakes as long as im getting Doom reboot, Prey reboot, Hitman reboot, Black Mesa (Half life fan remake) and now finally my dream come true Mafia remake.

only new major ip i guess will be Cyberpunk.

AAA, nah. Indies on the other hand, wooweeh, a lot of them. Also a lot flew under the gamers' radars due to them not having AAA marketing.

I think we had a decent amount of new IPs. The problem is that if you're only looking at online peers for what you should think of them instead of trying them yourself, then you'll think all these new IPs are complete shit.

Take For Honor as an example. Incredible and underrated new IP. I seriously hope a successor is on next gen. The way so many talked about it though, you'd think it was one of the worst games ever made.

Yes but I think remakes and sequels are fine so long as they are good!

How you feel about this gen... bla bla bla...

Stop buying the same f***ing zelda and stop ignoring VR.

You f***ing gamers are so ignorant to your own input in life. Its no wonder you guys are scared to post your setups, probably go through life on autopilot with no passion constantly complaining.

What are you doing to prevent encourage variety and new ideas?... What are the games you bought in the last 12 months.

Look in the mirror before you ask a question that is almost entirely dependant on supply and demand.

You praise remakes then ask for new IP's... f***ing hilarious.

I think in general people in this forum need to do their own digging and play different games.

This gen was loaded with lots of new IP and really, it depends what you are looking for that catch your fancy. There were lots of new Indie games and I say that was more I could ask for an IP games. I personally enjoy those new IP by Sony & Nintendo, MS had hits & misses but overall, I'd say everyone had their fair share of new IP games to enjoy. And this goes for VR games as well.

As I understand, its coming from mostly PC gamers who complains about gameplay being the same despite its a new IP, take Horizon: Zero Dawn for example. Some compare it to Far Cry even though its new IP but acts like Far Cry in a sense. That's the kind of attitude I see around here as an example and yeah, I have my issues with stuff like this as well. But at the end of the day, this is all on you gamers, I for one really enjoy what we were given out of this gen.

Is this a serious question? Just open up the Steam Store and you'll see probably thousands of new IP's this gen.

Now if you're talking about AAA games, then that ship sailed long ago. Gamers in general tend to buy sequels and less inclindes to commit to a new IP, considering how expensive it is to make games now it's simply an inane risk that publishers can't take. It's a rare thing, but companies like Sony can take the risk and lose, but others can't bustle a flop or it's doors shut. Simple as that.

I think age of experimentation for AAA and AA is over. Long gone the age of where dev just developing anything to see if the games can capture gamer interest. The cost of development and time just made such ventures a bit hard in AAA and AA space.

I don’t know, I think it was ok myself. However then again I generally don’t fuss too much on whether a game is a new IP or not, I just care if it’s good or not.

If we ignore the biggest genre in the world right now, Battle Royale games, sure. We also didn’t get too many good sequels. No GTA, still waiting on TLOU 2, 1 Uncharted, 1 Gears, 1 Halo etc etc. This gen was weak for games unless you’re into competitive gaming. That scene has never been better.
