Do you believe Activision when they say COD will return to its roots?

Do you think they mean it wholeheartedly or that some aspects of classic gameplay will come back? I'm hoping they can blend the two somehow, while maintaining what made the original games so much fun to play. I do think that the series has veered off into some weird sci fi direction that most people don't want. What made the originals great was the setting and the maps, which tailed to more tactical gameplay. What do you think, SW? Do you think the series will return to greatness?

I think it would benefit from simplifying things - there has been so much feature creep with that series over the years, the new ones seem to be stuffed with so much esoteric shit surrounding the stale-ass core gameplay.

I suspect with the positive reaction to BF1, they just mean they will return to some historical setting which will also mean all of the fancy mobility stuff will go away. I'm sure all of the levelling and character customisation and killstreak nonsense will hang around.

Personally I think that it's been great since the first Modern Warfare and still is. I'm not sure what their plan is exactly when they say, "return to its roots" but whatever they mean as long as it's something I like then I'll buy it.

Return to their roots by releasing 1 cod game per year instead of 2.

Return to their roots IMO "Mw4" OR "WaW2" confirmed. I haven't minded the latest installments (minus Ghosts, I couldn't stand that one) Infinite isn't that bad like people make it out to be. BLOPS3 been the best this gen. At least with COD you know you're going to get a solid launch, smooth and crisp experience. That's something they don't get enough credit for. Their games are always polished (minus some extremely rare bug that wasn't found in beta) So I'm hoping for WaW2, I loved the original a great deal and the series would benefit from a more simplified approach

If Activision can't see that the market is tired of the overdone futuristic shooters and is ready to see a return to WW2 then they are stupid. I don't think Activision is that stupid so I believe that they will market this year's Call of Duty game as Call of Duty returning to it's roots in WW2. If they don't and they release another futuristic shooter then I expect this year's Call of Duty game trailer to break last year's record for most disliked youtube video.

I couldn't care less if they do or not. I can't go back to that die, spawn, die formula after playing Overwatch and R6 Siege.

I don't care anymore, to be honest. They've lost the de facto multiplayer shooter mantle many times over by now.

givin the development cycle its highly unlikly BF1 influenced them. If anything BF1 just reinforced they choice they made with returning to a older setting

Stripping down the mobility doesn't take much. You offer less content and that's what your fans want lol. Offering less for more is Acitivision's motto. Do i believe it'll happen? Of course. Why not offer less to satisfy all the kids still playing that garbage?

I'd like a 2 to 4 player campaign so it doesn't feel worthless and hollow otherwise we'll just end up only playing multiplayer matches which really doesn't always justify the purchase (cod's age is showing I'm sorry)

What does it matter if they go back to its roots? COD was never that great anyway. Especially MW.

@Snowywonders: MW2 was casual bullshit. Cod 1, 2 and 4 were the only good ones. After that the series went dumb.

@SolidGame_basic: The setting will be there, but i welcome the outdated engine and rehashed modes. There will be a unique mode called "Zombies"

Didn't even know they came away from their roots. Thought they just keep updating new versions of CoD 4 with new settings.

I think they might be taking some things back to its roots, whatever that means. Not that they will make a game similar to CoD1.

All I'm certain of is I really don't give a shit.
