Do mobile games deserve an esports scene? Why or why not?

I may have some doubts with some mobile games having an "esports scene" but there are some games that have complicated mechanics, require skill, and are competitive in the slightest sense. MOBAs are already competitive by nature, so a mobile MOBA having a competitive gaming scene would make sense.

Most mobile MOBAs in Asia like Mobile Legends, Arena of Valor, and Honor of Kings have esports competitions in the countries they're mostly played in. WCG 2019 even added Honor of Kings to their list of official games, although exclusive for Chinese players only. But that could be a good start in giving mobile games the recognition they deserve.

Don't mistake casual games on mobile as "Mobile Games Esports." There are games that deserve the "esports treatment" based on their game design and games that just simply don't.

Sure, I don't think I'd watch it though. But you could have some people with real fast fingers smearing their grease across the screen in a competitive manner. People make competitions out of anything. Are touchscreens consistent enough for competitive play though? For me, touchscreens don't register touch sometimes.

Whatever floats your boat.

Personally, I think mobile games suck balls and seeing them being played in a competitive manner would look stupid as hell.

If nothing else an esports scene might make mobile gaming as toxic as the console gaming scene has sometimes been...

That's not really good for anyone... but there's plenty of other reasons it could happen

like just the fact that phones are already so interconnected anyway and

online interaction is a key to the whole situation... would makme sense to me I guess.

I only know one gamer on here who plays mobile games, but he's embarrassed by it and wouldn't post about it.

What can you say about gaming phones that claim to have better touchscreens than ordinary smartphones? Do you think they're good enough gear for mobile esports?

Why would he be embarrassed about it? (What mobile game does he play, anyway?)

Not really something that I would be particularly interested in myself but if there’s a market for it then sure, why not.

The fuq??? The recognition they deserve? Doesn’t mobile bring in more revenue than any other platform?

Edit: Yes. In 2018 mobile made $70 Billion. Console $34 Billion and PC almost $33 Billion. It doesn’t matter what you call the mobile games. They clearly have the recognition they deserve.

I swear, gaming boards get more and more irrelevant by the day...

@goldenelementxl: Was about to say the same.

MK11 is prety much like MK9 mobile, or Injustice mobile.

Super Mario Run should be. That game is all about timing, reflexes and precision like many other platformers. Toad Rally is the best and very addicting.

I think he means from a competitive standpoint... not a financial one.

Considering all the top 100 revanue earning games on mobile are VERY simplistic, have Pay2win elements ... and feed gambeling addiction ... and EVERYONE has access to them.

But there ain't many games that are genuinely competitive, or clever designed.

Yes. But they need to choose wisely, most of the gamers will prefer MOBA or Battle Royale genre game because it is one of the games played by a large number of players. That's just me but who knows? WCG is not just an eSports event, it's the esports itself so they will pick a game that loved by people.
